I have learned many useful & practical ideas from members here. I have tried many a recipe someone suggested. I have gotten helpful technology advice a few times when I was baffled. Someone nearly always has a great website when I am trying to find information on a topic or a household item. I have learned quite a bit about clothing/fashion, home decoration and repair, real estate sales/buying, and travel. I also agree that the members are always kind and caring, especially if one's family member has become gravely ill and one is trying to choose medical/residential care for them.
I've learned about so many things and most of them involve food, books, and TV, my three favorite hobbies (I love to cook).
Fruit dip - marshmallow fluff, cream cheese, and toffee bits. I had to "unlearn" this one because I was eating it by the boatload when I was pregnant.
Caramel tea at night as a dessert replacement (see above)
Blue cheese dip from Trader Joe's
Quite a few books-- Educated, Hillbilly Elegy, The Silent Patient, and another really good memoir about a young woman in a care facility for unwed mothers (I'll think of the name later).
I was one of "I don't wanna learn another new thing" whiners when Google Classroom was brand new. It took about a dozen PT posts and I dove in. I'm so glad I got on the train early.
I'm not well-versed but I'm far more aware of working conditions in other states and union matters. I learned a lot about maternity leave from PTers.
I really appreciate the perspective of PT parents/family members with atypically developing children and adult children. I believe it has made me a better advocate for students. PTers in the special ed field have been very generous and supportive with their knowledge, too.
Lots of things, but right off the top of my head:
-The kindle/airplane mode trick that was mentioned above
-Putting dry shampoo in your hair at night (when you washed it that morning) rather than waiting until the next morning when your hair is already oily. Seriously, life changing tip here! I've been so much happier with my "second day" hair ever since.
-Budgeting/money saving tips like the envelope system. That one didn't actually work out for me, but it was a great springboard for figuring out what DOES work for me, and now I am quite a good saver!
I've learned when you are pouring out the fat after cooking ground beef, line the "collection bowl" with foil so you can just toss it once it hardens without making a harder to clean mess.
I’ve gotten so many great book suggestions, especially during this pandemic.
I’ve tried different recipes and cleaning tips. But my very favorite, pre COVID, were all the great tips for places I was traveling. I always knew I could count on PT for great restaurant suggestions and attractions to see.
I have also learned so much about schools and living in different parts of the country that are so different from my personal experience.
Travel tips, recipes, new shows on Netflix, shocking work conditions, book recommendations, hair care, love of cats, beauty of the areas people live in,helper outlook of most teachers
I have learned so much here. Like another poster, I especially enjoy Photo Friday along with Three Word Thursday and Whisper It Wednesday. Through PT I am able to appreciate the diversity and beauty of our magnificent country.
Can I admit I initially stole the Photo Friday idea from a FB group that I ended up leaving? I love seeing everyone’s pictures .
I like the feedback. PT is entertaining.
