I'm guessing he was focused more on keeping warm. He also may have thought that the camera and the people watching would not have their eyes on him during the ceremony.
I'm also guessing that he doesn't care what others think! I've heard that the older we get, the less we care about what others think.
As others have mentioned, if you ever lived the the New England area, you really consider dressing for warmth. His coat and mittens remind me of some of my past bundling up outfits for recess duty!!
I sort of felt sorry for him until it seems that he could care less. If I'm right, I thought I heard he was selling sweatshirts with that picture of him on the front, giving the money to some cause.
As a former Vermonter I don’t think anyone is making fun of him or that he is upset. My family that likes Bernie has been sending each other memes. It’s fun! It makes me nostalgic.
I saw him being interviewed and he just chuckled about it. He said now everyone knows Vermonters have great mittens. He’s been in politics for decades and has been the subject of many memes/teasing over the years. I really don’t think he cares.
I have seen a bunch of these and none are mean spirited. It's just a laugh and people are so creative. Did you see the Holderness family did a song? It makes me laugh so much, so clever
I am birdie and I love the memes. It’s a great representation of who he is and why many love him. Down to earth, wearing gloves a teacher made him, and knows that business still needs to be taken care of.
I saw him interviewed about the memes. He chuckled and said he was aware of them. He didn't seem upset at all. Bernie has a huge following of supporters who love him. I think he sees the memes as light-hearted. I think they are the levity that we all need given the tension we have all come through over the past few months.
I have not seen any that were mean spirited. They strike me as a take on Flat Stanley.
If Bernie cared what people thought of his sartorial choices, he’d have changed them a long time ago:
Plus, he’s selling the chair photo on a sweatshirt on his website. All the proceeds go to Vermont Meals on Wheels. I think he’s fine with it.
I also don’t think most people are making fun of him. I think we’re relating to him. It’s laughing with him rather than at him.
And at least among the people I know, even those who don’t like his ideas respect his character. I don’t think the memes are mean-spirited the way a lot of Biden and Trump memes have been recently.
I didn't think people were making fun of him either. I saw the Seth Meyers interview as well. He seemed very pleased that the teacher who made the mittens for him was getting a lot of positive attention.
I remember way back when, in 2016 when he announced his first presidential run. I didn't used to follow politics closely and I had no idea who he was, but I remember telling my mom, "Don't you think you'd brush your hair prior to getting up on the podium to announce your presidential candidacy?" As we've all learned, that's just who he is!
There are some harsh responses on Twitter regarding Bernie's wardrobe for the inauguration. But Bernie "really doesn't give a f&ck" as Jackie would say He appreciates that people would make fun. The guy has a sense of humor and knows how to stay warm!
The teacher who made the mittens lives in my hometown! My hs friend knows her. Bernie thinks the memes are hilarious. We Vermonters not only know how to stay warm, we know how to laugh at ourselves!
I bet Tom Hanks was wishing for that coat and those mittens when he hosted the evening festivities. Poor man looked cold. At least Bernie has the good sense to dress appropriately for the weather. To heck with fashion.
You know he has a great sense of humour. He's joined Larry David on SNL, at least once. Later Larry David was on "Finding Your Roots". They actually are related!
I hope we don't have to wait for the book as long as we have to wait for Amanda Gorman's book of children's poems, "Change Sings." Her books, including "The Hill We Climb and Other Poems" won't be released until September 21.
You know someone WILL write a book with the title, "Bernie's Mittens". It's too good an idea not to. Amanda's are already best sellers!
with the image. The money that is raised goes to Meals on Wheels in Vermont. I think he is having fun with it too. He was on CNN this morning and expects to be able to raise quite a bit to Meals on Wheels.
