Leaving job?

I am wondering if anyone knows anything about a school being able to hold your teaching license. I gave my school a month notice to find someone for my job due to medical issues. I have been going to different doctors, etc. I gave the school my resignation letter and I was told that would not be released from my position until they find someone else to replacement. It has been a month and I know they have not started interviewing. I am thinking of just not showing up any longer to work because I just need to take it easy on myself due to these issues. I do not plan to teach any time soon. I am wondering how long they can actually hold my certification. When I get better I plan to substitute at another district and just find another career. At this time this stress is not worth my health. Any suggestions? I live in Texas.

I'm sorry that you are having issues that are causing you to have to do this. I don't have very much advice for you other than maybe you could call your hr department and see what they say. Keep us posted.

Sub leave

Do you not have anymore sub days? What about long term medical leave? I would definitely inquire more, before you just don't show up. I don't think you'd be hired even as a sub later on if you did that...Medically, if you have paperwork from your doctor, they can not fire you...pretty sure that there are laws regarding that.
Hope your health improves...

JMO, but I'm not in your shoes. I don't know if you should just walk away from your job. Do you have a union rep or human resource person to talk to? Legally my district can hold you 60 days or upon finding a replacement. In many instances, they will just let you leave unless its a difficult position to fill.

I hope that you are able to find the strength to get through this situation! Best of luck.

I'd talk to your union. States each have their own laws about revoking or freezing credentials, but in California, a district CAN initiate disciplinary proceedings (including freezing a credential for a year) when teachers leave mid-contract. Unions typically fight this successfully, especially if medical issues are involved.
