I am graduating Fall 2010 with a cert in secondary social studies. Here in PA they don't need too many ss teachers, so I am trying to also get my cert in special ed. I will have taken most of the courses by the time I graduate (I think with the exception of two). I was thinking about trying to get a special ed job before I have the special ed certification (spring 2011) with a teacher intern certificate. Does anybody know if districts actually hire people who are still working towards their ACTUAL certificate and just have an intern certificate? I know the job market for spec ed is huge so I thought I might have a shot.

I have met a couple of teachers that were very close to finishing their degree and were hired to fill in for a year. This only happened because there was a great need for sped teachers and not many applicants. You could sure give it a try!
