I started planning for next year and made a list of field trips to schedule. I do stuff way ahead of time so I get the dates I want.

I scheduled 15 FTs this year. I have two this Tuesday and Thursday and the last one is April 22nd.

Oh the joys of Kindergarten. I'm ready for summer.

All but 3 are walking FTs! They don't cost a penny!

My district has only enough money for one 1/2 day field trip per grade level each year

I hear you! We ended up doing 15 field trips this year (I think). They are always very fun but utterly exhausting! And we had 2 the first week back after spring break (what was I thinking?). Where do you guys go? We do...
  • public library
  • pumpkin patch
  • sing at a retirement community
  • natural history museum
  • science museum
  • local art place
  • Trader Joe's
  • beach
  • 7 trips to our local park

That's such a shame! Our science curriculum has a huge unit on trees, so we walk to the local park, do our science there, and then spend the rest of the day playing. I love it!

As usual, Sbkangas is my teacher doppelgänger! <3

We go to:
  • a nearby open space (Bear Canyon) 5x a year. 4x to observe each season & the the last with a 2nd gr class to pick up trash for Earth Day
  • the local HS to bake with the "big kids" in the Culinary Arts class
  • the ABQ Jazz Festival (also at the HS)
  • local pizza place to tour the kitchen and make pizza
  • local fire station
  • local assisted living to perform the Holiday Concert
  • local bakery to learn about food sources, tour the kitchen, and make bread sticks
  • pumpkin patch (bus trip)
  • hand-on children's science museum (bus trip)
  • Rio Grand Nature Center State Park (bus trip)
  • Popejoy Hall for a performance--usually a musical, always geared toward little kids (bus trip)

That also makes me sad. Even if they are walking field trips that don't cost anything?

I teach in such a rural area that there are NO walking field trips beside the nature trail across the street from our school and the old one room school that is now the snowmobile club! We do walk on the nature tail about once a month (except for Dec - March).

The HS/MS as well as any stores, post office, assisted living center, etc. are about 8 miles away.

A local theater company (about 10 miles from school) paid for our school to go to the theater for a showing of The Polar Express at Christmas time.

Other than that, we have to pay for any field trips, so we can only do one bus field trip per year.
