Pencil Wars...a thank you

I just want to say Thank You to who ever it was that originally posted about it. I rarely have to deal with pencils now. And the kids are so proud of not losing their supplies. They sharpen their own pencils in the morning and on Fridays I reward and resupply pencils. It has made 1 less thing on my plate to deal with this year.

I have had SO many headaches lightened this year! I've never had anything work so well in my classroom and let's just say.... those kids that don't keep up with their pencils, they're not too excited to not get a small "treat" (erasers, new pencil, etc.) The next week, they're sure to keep up with them!

Pencil Pouches....

Chiming in here with my two cents...I am using something similar. Last year, we went through over 300 pencils in my room. I only allowed them to sharpen in the morning and right after lunch, but they were "eating" my pencils. This year I have been using a freebie from I can't remember where...called Friends of Pencils. Everyone is more responsible and the wasting of pencils has disappeared. Thank you to those who suggested this management idea!

Try this company- they sometimes have tubs of misprinted pencils very cheap. Also, every Christmas, I give each of my students the personalized pencils with their name in gold in the pouch for .99 each- they absolutely love it! Third graders ask me how I got their names on each pencil
For Teachers Only is the name of the company.

I give the students pencils for every holiday. I do the same as the previous poster and use for teachers only and give personalized pencils. I went through hundreds of pencils a year. I no longer give pencils if a student does not have one. They borrow from a classmate and give it back at the end of the day. It amazed me that they really do give the pencil back. This has not been a problem. I just got tired of buying all those pencils and also giving them several during the year. They should have two pencils at all times. They are also only allowed to sharpen pencils in the morning so there are no interruptions.
