My embarrassing moment today

I am 9 months pregnant. My due date is in two weeks. Itís so hot outside and Iíve reached the pretty miserable stage.

This morning we actually had a very rare morning of nice weather. It was cloudy and the temperature was in the 80ís. This hasnít happened here in weeks. My 5 year old wanted to go outside and ride his bike. I thought sure! This would be a great opportunity for him to get out and and I could walk behind him and get some exercise too. Sounded like a great idea!

We set off in the neighborhood. He was a little ahead of me and I was 9 month pregnant huffing and puffing along behind him. It was all going fine until we passed a house with a huge dog in the backyard that I didnít see. The dog barked at us, it startled me, and then I felt myself trip. I knew I was falling and there was no way to stop it. I twisted to the side to keep my stomach from hitting the ground and landed hard on my left knee. Iím sure it was a very graceful sight to see me sprawled out in the road. Luckily (unluckily maybe?) no other neighbors were outside and no one saw me fall except ds. I got up and hobbled back home.

I called my Obís office just be on the safe side. I figured any fall at 38 weeks should probably be reported. I told her my belly didnít hit, just my knee which was scraped and banged up, but otherwise fine. She said I was probably ok, but wanted to check me out to make us both feel better. Of course, the doctorís office closes at 12:00 on Fridays and by the time they called me back it was around 11:45 so it was too late to come in. So they sent me to the hospital to labor and delivery.

When I got there, I kept having to say no Iím not in labor- Iím just clumsy and fell down. Super embarrassing, but they were very nice and checked me out and proclaimed baby to be just fine. They gave me a list of things to watch out for- which basically could happen anyway at anytime if I go into labor on my own.

Now Iím home and exhausted. My boys are watching a movie and I think Iíll be on the couch the rest of the day.

Lesson learned- exercise is overrated.

The important thing is that you and baby are ok.

That said, I'm a self conscious person, so I get your embarrassment.

Unexpected moments!

OMG! I hope youíve been feeling better! I especially hope you were allowed more rest and relaxation!!

You reminded me of my first long term sub assignment for a pregnant teacher. It was her last day, so I basically shadowed her while she went through her day and explained her routine. Just as she was walking the class in from their last recess she suddenly fell forward, automatically using her hands and outstretched arms to keep from falling on her stomach. In this case there were lots of people around who rushed over to help her out. I took the class in while others tended to her. As in your case she was basically okay other than having some embarrassments, sore wrists and a few knee scrapes and bruises.

I am sorry you fell and hurt yourself. I am glad the baby you are carrying is okay. You are likely to be really sore tomorrow. Take it easy and I hope your body heals quickly.

Ouch! I can see why you were embarrassed (I'd probably be too), but I'm sure that they get people like that all the time. Falls happen. I'm so glad you and baby are ok, and I hope that your knee feels better soon! Give yourself as much rest as you need.

Instead of feeling embarrassed you should be proud of your quick thinking! That kept you and the baby safe. Good for you! Tell your little guy to give you a well deserved pat on the back!

When I was teaching and about six months pregnant, I had an office chair that tipped easy. One time I went to sit dow and the seat of the chair just tipped me right out in front of a class of students. The class of sixth graders were silent as I just sat there in shock. One of the students asked me if I hurt anything. I got to my feet and said only my ego! We all had a good laugh and moved on.

Glad you're ok and baby is fine! I get being embarrassed- definitely btdt!

When I was around 38 weeks pregnant with #3, I was walking back through the woods from visiting a neighbor while holding baby #2 and toddler #1 was walking near us when I tripped and fell. It was fun to try to protect both baby #2 in my arms and #3 in my belly I was fine, both babies were fine, but just a stupid thing. Not the first, and not the last.

I love your conclusion

I hope you have a smooth delivery and get to meet your newest addition soon

I'm so glad you and the baby are okay! Keep us posted on the birth of you new loved one!

On a side note, whenever I hear dog bark, I jump, so I could see this happening to me, too!

How scary for you, and painful! I am glad you got checked out! Rest up as much as you can this weekend and I hope your knee heals quickly!

So glad you and baby are OK! Rest this weekend.

When you got to the hospital and told them "no, I'm not in labor" I almost thought you were going to say they found out you were in labor and had the baby.

From a very accident prone person (aka Linda the clutz) I get that you were embarrassed, but I'm so glad you and the baby are safe. I hope you're not too sore in the days to come.
