Shared Reading stories

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I teach at a school that doesn't go by a certain reading series and need some ideas about books to use with my K kids next year for Shared Reading. I would like to use one story per week. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need to purchase big books to use for this.
Thanks

Does your school follow a scope and sequence such as letter or sight words per week? You may want to use this as a starting point for your teaching. Perhaps, your school has big books that are not being used. At my school, our team shared, in some cases, 1 big book between 3 classes! It is possible. Not ideal but possible.

Childcraft has some reasonably priced books as does Lakeshore or Scholastic. I just submitted my first donors choose request. That may be an option for you too.

Some favorite big books are:
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
No, David!
5 Little Monkeys
anything by Joy Cowley
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Little Red Hen
Sunshire and Wright Group books

Other alternatives would be to use your guided reading books as the shared reading text and project those onto a screen via a document camera.

Good luck with your search.

Our school's doesn't have a reading series either. My favorite shared reading books are Joy Cowley's. She has such great ones and the kids love them. If you google her name you can find book lists.
