How about a "Me Bag." They decorate it and put in a few things that tell about them (from home- a type of show and tell.)

puppets for readers' theater or response to a shared reading

fold down the edges to make nests- for a spring project

You can make a horse head with it.

If your kids were older they make neat journal covers. Crinkle them up and rub them so they look like leather, and it looks like leather journal covers for a Pioneer unit.

I have also used them in the same way (crinkled and worn) and then tear them so they look like animal hides. have the kids write rebus stories using pictures like a Native American hunting story with black marker.

You could do the same and make beading patterns on them so they look beaded. (like with markers or painted noodles or colored rice.)

Ive seen them stuffed and made into turkey bodies at Thanksgiving- attach feathers and a head.

I've also seen them stuffed and tied with twine at the top and tissue paper flowers coming out of them to look like planters.

That's about all the creativity I have on a Friday night.

It's a little late for this year, but I saw some cute bunnies made out of brown paper bags yesterday! The bag was fully intact (and used during an Easter egg hunt, maybe?) except for the open part at the top. The teacher had cut out a section from the middle of the top so that it looks like two ears. I wish I could explain it better!!

It looked kind of like this (but not so elaborate!!)

Bird houses

I went in one of our first grade classrooms the other day and they had used brown paper bags with an oval shaped hole cut in the front for a bird type house. They used pine straw to fill them to the circle level and top was folded down. Each "house" was hanging with 2 pieces of rope type jute material from a real branch that they had gone out and collected. The kids had designed their own birds (draw, color/paint and cut out) and the birds were sitting on the branches or sticking out of their little houses. Teacher had them displayed on the wall and it was quite cute and impressive.

How'd You Get So Many Bags?

I would decorate them with happy birthday and fill them with trinkets, as I get them, to pass out next year. The kids could pick the one they wanted.

I used to have a book with paper bag art. I think you could make animals and some other things. Can't remember cause it's been years since I taught K.

Start from the top and roll the sides down until you get near the bottom of the sack. It looks like a nest and you could make sight word flash cards on egg shapes, etc. to put inside the bag.

Wind Socks

Cut off the bottom and the bag becomes a Spring windsock. Put streamers at the bottom and a handle at the top. Have the kids decorate the bag with cut out shapes and markers. The love when it blows in the wind.

We made Fandango Characters (from the Fandango commercials). Then, I had the students write about the character they created.
