Read/Write the room

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm giving my students clipboards, magnifying glasses, and special hats that say "word detective" on them so that they can read/write the room. Does anyone have any templates they use to help guide their students in this activity? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Look for ...
words with 1 letter / 2 letters / 3 letters / words that begin with a Capital letter / little words in big words (could use a coloured pencil for the little word)

I do things based on season/holidays things like that for write the room.

For instance, for Spring, I printed out like 8 pictures with words and posted them in various places around the room that had to do with Spring. They then had to use the accompanying recording sheet and go on a hunt to find all of the words and write them down. They love it.

This year for "write the room" I bought pens that are 5 different colors in one. You just push down the clicker and can change the pen color from blue to red to green, etc. The ONLY time the kids can use them is when they are "writing the room" during our center time. They look so forward to using these cool pens! Just another idea to keep it fun and exciting!

vf.teacher,
I call my read/write the room literacy center the "detective center" so I love that you created hats to match! I've written a blog post that gives a glimpse of what we use at our center... scroll down until you see the detective center part. Have a great day!
