How do I become a music teacher?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have musicial background. I've taken various singing and music lessons since about fourth grade. I play many instruments. I got certified to teach k-5, but can't find a job. I've landed a job with a local Christian school as a music teacher. Everyone is telling me I'm doing well. Much better than the former teacher. However, they won't pay me full salary because I am not a certified music teacher. I want to become certified. I went to school for and got my cert for k-5. I took some music courses in college, but all of those were electives. Do I have to get another degree? Or can I get a cert?

You can probably get a music add-on licensure. Check with your state's license board and/or department of instruction. You may be able to take the Praxis 2 to get your license.
