Student moving tomorrow -- Help!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I just found out that tomorrow is the last day for one of my students. He is such a kind and respectful kid. I'm really sorry to see him go. I'm trying to come up with something nice that my class could make/give to him tomorrow. With such little notice and only one day to get it done, I'm not sure what to do. I was hoping one of you might have an idea or something you could share with me. I would greatly appreciate it! TIA

...but if it were me I'd like photos of myself with my class. You can send them via e-mail to his parents. For Star of the Week I have my 2nd graders write 3 things they most like about the star in sentences. They decorate the sheet and then I've put it into a book with a cover for the child to take home. The cover is laminated. You could do this in a day- minus the laminating if not available to you. Your class could Skype. When I had a student leave (which is not often), we wrote group e-mails. Just a few ideas.

My student was deported, so it was very sad.

Run by Walmart or Dollar General and get a pillow case. Have your students sign the pillow case using permanent markers. "Now I lay me down to sleep, I'll count my friends instead of sheep"...I have done this with thumbprints and acrylic paint and then made cute little people or bumblebees, ladybugs and flowers out of them. For a boy your could totally do aliens out of thumbprints.

Another idea is to pick up a white or light colored t shirt and some fabric markers and have everyone sign it. Or put a class picture on apiece of cardstock or construction paper and have everyone sign around it.

Why not just run off copies of some letter writing paper and have the students write letters to him? Then just bind it into a book when they're done. Easy and quick.

Class Book

I ended up making a template and a cover for a class book to say goodbye. It worked out well. I'm considering getting a few things to have on hand for the future, because I really liked the pillowcase idea. We don't usually have a lot of students leave, at least not until this year, but I'd rather be prepared.

Thanks again for all of the great ideas!
