I need some support/advice before I pull my hair out and turn completely gray!!!!!
What math programs are you using? We currently do not have a "math" program for special ed. I am expected to follow the 6th grade curriculum to some extent, to expose them to gen ed skills. If my students could do 6th grade math, they wouldnt have an IEP!!!! ....what do you use, do in your classroom??

When I taught 7th/8th, I did what I could with the textbook. Let's say we were getting in to GCF and LCM. I spent about a week on the pre-requisite skills and another week on the text skills. If it looked like kids were frustrated or just not getting it, we moved on. I let them use calculators and didn't expect them to know their times tables.

Likely the kids are the age of 8th graders. I did a unit on checks and bank accounts which they really liked. That's real-life applications, and a lot of math skills.
