What do you call students who go back to GenEd

I am working on my NBCT component two for ENS and i am trying to figure out how to phrase the act of students going from my self-contained classroom to a general education classroom (Change in location not placement).

I tell my kids they are going to a "mainstream" classroom. Some kids call it going to an out class. Some teachers call it going back to the general education classroom. What term is the best for people to understand?

I am thinking general education classroom.

Do you mean an exit or they are doing a class in with the gen ed population?

If you mean they are exited from SPED because they no longer qualify, I just say they were exited. If they are still SPED and joining a gen ed class for a period of the day, then I usually hear mainstreaming.

It's for kiddos that are getting ready to transition to a less restrictive placement. Like a C to a B, but are not quite there yet. I am testing out with the kiddos if they can handle it.

I call it mainstreaming but I wonder if that will be easily understood by non-special education teachers/

You could also say that the kid is going to an environment where he/she can learn more independence. This might make it easier for gen ed teachers to understand. You can go into more detail if they ask.

I think "general education classroom" is a pretty universal term. You could say "mainstreamed in a general education classroom" to explain what they are experiencing. If you are looking for a term to explain to others what they are doing, I'd call it that.

It's for my national boards paper. I have been warned I need to have terms that are easy to understand by any educator. It's nerve racking...

I am going to use the "mainstreamed in a general education classroom" and then refer to it as general education. That way if I don't catch myself and type mainstream somewhere later on they would hopefully understand.

Why would this not be a change of placement?
