Clip to ScrapBook #1

One of my 10th grade students mom emailed me and my Principal on Friday. she feels that her student should qualify for ESY because he isn't making progress on a goal that he had back in 7th grade. we added the 7th grade goal to his new IEP from March. Am I supposed to be working on goals from 7th grade? these parents are so unkind and overwhelmingly negative. My principal won't stand up for me. He will give in and reprimand me for the lack of progress.

How does she know the student is not making progress on the goal?

What does your data say? If he is making progress, parents have no case.

These parents probably do not want their child at home over the summer and are basically demanding free baby sitting.

Our ESY has dwindled to almost nothing and you need lots of documentation to get into the program and no unexcused absences to stay in ESY the following you.

Your principal may not support you, but whoever does the special ed budget may not support your principal if he gives into these parents.

These parents have requested that I send homework. He does fine at school. But with helicopter mom hovering he gets frustrated. My data shows he's making progress since March. I guess that isn't fast enough for them. They also claim that his progress is because I allow him to use a calculator which is untrue.
