Master's in TESOL or Endorsement

Hello,

I know that TESOL is a critical shortage area. In my state (Michigan) retired teachers can keep their pension without being penalized if they teach a critical shortage area. That's why I decided to enroll in a Masters online program in Early Childhood at Grand Canyon University. I already hold a teaching certificate and a Masters in elementary education. I just learned that I would have to complete 8 weeks practicum for preschool and 8 weeks k-3. I really don't want to do both. Also, I just took a class ESL-533 and really enjoyed learning about ESL. GCU offers a MA in TESOL and/or graduate certificate.

Any advice? If I do the MA in TESOL I would have to complete 60 hours practicum.
If I complete an endorsement in TESOL I would only have to complete 10 hours.

Which is more beneficial? Is the pay higher if I have a MA in TESOL? or TESOL Endorsement be just as good

I would appreciate any perspective on this as I'm having a hard time deciding.

Thank you,

I'd get th Master's. In my area, you would be sought after to tech adults either at the community college level or in the community. What do YOU want to do?

Hello Dee:

I appreciate the advice. After much thought and your post, I think I will pursue the Masters. I only need 7 more classes and I have to complete the 60 hours for the practicum. I would finish in December, 2019. As long as I am teaching, I am happy. I truly LOVE teaching.

Thank you so much for your advice,
