What are some good programs or curriculums for 7th grade students reading on third and fourth grade level? My special education teacher is lazy and no help.

NewsELA and ReadWorks. Both offer a huge variety of reading topics on a variety of reading levels.

You can even print the same topic on more than one level.

They can also go online to read and even do the comprehension questions in a student account. The program grades the true/false, MC questions and puts all the longer responses on one teacher page so you can just grade down through them without clicking in and out of the individual student accounts.

It just takes a few minutes to set up the accounts at first.

I would use an online system so that it is easy for the students and also for you to track. Try out Beestar, I've used it a couple of times and it works out really great for the kids and for me.

I agree! Newsela.com is a great resource. My SpEd kids know their lexile level, so they can easily choose the right level for them. I do have to make sure that my capable-but-lazy kids stay on the correct (higher) lexile level, though.

Another similar website is TweenTribune.com.
