What are the characteristics of a memoir? I would like to explain it to my kids in student-friendly language. Thanks

a memoir is different from an auto-biography because it may not be as objective. I guess you could say the author interprets the events a little more freely, and doesn't necessarily take others' view points into consideration.

This probably won't work for a primary definition! Sorry, I thought I really was helping, until I started writing it out!

I worked with my colleague on my first memoir unit this past year, and I learned so much. Children's memoirs are wonderful to listen to!

A memoir is the story of a memory that is close to your heart. It might be one event stretched out, or many tiny events.

It should be full of details so that the reader can see what you saw and feel what you felt.

Memoirs let you look back and think about or REFLECT on an experience. How do you feel now when you think about your memory? Did you learn a lesson or something about yourself? Will you remember this memory even when you are old?

A memoir is basically a personal memory the writer would like to share from the past. It is different from an auto biography because it foucues on one memory you have had, and not your whole life story in the past. It should be full of descriptive details so the readers can invision that specif memory and how you felt about it at the time.
