Take the Checkered Flag of Learning/Success/Whatever!
You can get banners or little checkered flags to decorate as border, maybe use cars decorated like Indy cars or Nascar's, but instead of advertising they have subjects and things related to the subject (MATH...multiply/divide/round/fractions/etc.)
I'm a big IRL (Indy car) racing fan, so this sounds fun to me.
Racing into _____ Grade!
Mrs. ____________ Pit Crew (for your job chart)
We "Brake" for Birthdays
Racing into a New Year
You could make your behavior board a large race track and they could move their car for misbehavior. They could move it to a yellow flag for a warning...in for a pit stop...or to the garage when major repairs need to be made.
Thank you so much for the great ideas. I especially like the pit crew idea for my helpers. Also I will make a car with subject details in place of advertising.. Both of you have been such a big help.
Rev Up Your Writing - use race cars to put words on for your word wall

My classroom is decorated with a racing theme and you can find pics on my website: www.mrscopelandsclass.com. There are lots of great ideas in the archive for this theme!
Being a huge NASCAR fan, I also use a racing theme. In the hallway, I have a NASCAR logo made from various shades of construction paper about a foot high and 6 feet long. Under it, I have "Racing Into 3rd Grade..." I have a NASCAR car for each chicld, which has their name on it. These are laminated and then placed all around the sign leading into the classroom. (A picture would be easier!) In my room, I have black and white checkered pillows in the reacing center...my helper board is The Pit Crew" It is a red background surrounded by a black and whited checkered border. I have a piece of tire and a other pit crew things on the board for visuals. I also used the theme for my word wall. Each of the alphabet letters is on a red, green, or yellow racing flag. Each vowel letter is on a black tire.
I have more ideas for you if you are interested. Let me know. I can take pictures and email them to you...
I am a big Indy race fan...so a few years ago I decided to go with the race theme. Now there are tons of things to buy but when I did it there wasn't anything pre-made such as borders. I wrote to various racing teams and told them what I was doing and you would not believe the stuff that was sent to me! Many, many autographed pictures and t-shirts, miniature race cars, helmets, actual gloves drivers had worn, posters, etc. I never expected to get so much stuff. It was so cool but unfortunately my 3rd graders just didn't get in to it, even tho we are an hour away from Indy. I did the pit crew for my helpers as well. Have fun! You might try e-bay for racing stuff too.
How did you email the companies? I can't seem to find any addresses to get anything. The only one I was able to get a response from was Indy 500. They are going to send a poster. I would love to know where to get the addresses and what you said in the note.
Thanks
This year, I am the ELA Department Head for my middle school. I am really trying to boost our Accelerated Reader Program. We are using the NASCAR or race car theme. How did you contact the racing teams? I work at a school filled with inner city students. They would be fascinated to have official signed items. Please email me more information.
Hi! We are doing a racing theme this year, I am very interested to know the emails or mailing addresses used that sent stuff to you. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing your website, it is amazing. It is obvious that you are very dedicated to education. As a preservice teacher, you have shown me multiple ideas for room setup and themes. Thank you again,
