Thank you so much for sharing!! These are great and I'll be sure to use them.
I have a question about the structure of each day's lesson.
Is this the correct format for the day?
*teach lesson/create I-chart
*model for students
*students model correct/incorrect/correct behaviors
*practice for all students (start with 3 min. then gradually increase 1 minute per day when ALL students are successful)
Not sure if this is the correct structure of each day?
Thanks for clarifying this for me!!
*I typically didn't model for students. Based on the I-chart, they modeled what was expected. We also added to the I-chart as needed after we initially made it.
*If they make it to 3 minutes when you practice, then practice again and try to get 4 minutes (so you want to add a minute to each practice time-if they are successful-rather than adding a minute to each day). It's possible that you could practice 3 times in one day, and they could add a minute each practice. That means in one day you've gone from, let's say, 5 minutes to 8 minutes.
*Yes, my class would practice 3+ times per day-especially when I first introduced read to self and then again with read to someone.
Just remember that every class is different. This isn't a set in stone lesson plan for every class. You have to tweak things and do what works for your class!
AD, thanks so much for sharing your plans with us. I especially needed them. i feel better about starting the daily 5 with my 3rd graders and i am feeling alittle unsure of myself, these plans have helped. Thank you!!
Thank you for posting your lesson plans, AD. I printed them off and included them in my planning binder to use as I launch D5. I will share them with my team since we are doing a book study on D5 during our professional learning time. You have made my life easier! Bless you!
Thank you for sharing your plan from last year. Did the children continue to practice read to self even when you were introducing read to someone?
Did you find that your children caught on quickly to the routines?
I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
Your plans are awesome and I know I will use them but I do have a ? and it's probably a silly one but here goes... I notice that you have Read to Self and then under it the days listed.. then you have Read to Someone and also day 1 is under it... are you doing all of the Read to Self before starting Read to Someone or are you introducing them all at the same time???? I hope this question is clear... I think I just might be overthinking all of this.
I like your week lessons. What do you do beyond that first week?
Are there places online that you use for word work or writing?
I am looking for resources that I don't need to purchase since I don't have any money!!
Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking about using Daily5 with my ESL students who is in Grade 9 but whose study habits and skills are really poor. Hope it will help them with independent study. Thanks a lot!
