Snack letter

I'm looking for a letter to send home to parents re: healthy snacks. Does anyone have a letter that I could borrow?

I haven't made up my mind on whether to do a monthly calendar sign up or to have each child bring their own. Any thoughts?

I teach at a school that has about 40-50% of kids on Free/Reduced lunch and I am concerned that some kids will not send snacks and I will be forced to feed everyone not to mention food allergies!

But we have a REALLY late lunch (2nd to last on the schedule) and the snack seems unavoidable this year.

Your child is encouraged in bring in a healthy snack every day. This is optional. I will not be providing snacks to those who do not have one due to food allergies. The State of Missouri is recommending that healthy treats should be brought in the classroom in lieu of traditional, sugary treats . I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE this. I will be teaching your child the importance of eating healthy and this is your chance to show your support of this as a parent. I have a list of acceptable healthy treats that can be brought in on our class website. Thank you for setting a good example for our children!

I have found it easier to have them bring in their own. A lot of children notice those who don't have a snack and end up bringing in an extra one every day for those without.

I tried having parents send in extra snacks last year. Each day I would have 5-7 kids lined up for a snack. It became a pain, so I stopped getting donations. Magically after that I had about 1-2 kids a week who didn't have one. I just have kids share their snacks with someone who forgot. Hope you can use some or part of my snack letter.

Thank you for your snack letter. It is an excellent one. I just changed peanuts on the 'do not send' side because I thought some students may be allergic to peanuts.
