I'd like to do a lesson on proofreading and editing. I also want to give them a small chart to paste in their writing folders of the proofreading symbols. Does anyone have one of these or know where to find a "5th grade friendly" version? Also, any ideas of lessons to do for editing and proofreading practice would be great. Thanks!!

I teach fourth grade and my kids do D.O.L. everyday. This is Daily Oral Language and consists of two sentences that have mistakes in them. They have to find the mistakes and correct them in each sentence. I teach them on the first day that we start this activity, the proofreading symbols. They paste the sheet in the front of their book to reference, and then when they go to edit the sentences they first use the proofreading/editing marks to note the mistakes and then they rewrite the sentences on the lines below fixing the errors as they go. This way I really only have to teach it once and then they are practicing it all year long. If I notice they are having problems we will review them, but having them pasted in the front of their books really helps.
