We have a spirit day dress up once a month with a different theme. I am on the committee to choose this year's themes and am looking for some fresh ideas??? Thanks in advance

We have a K-12 school. I sound like a Grinch but I absolutely hate "dress up" days. The kids...all of them, are in La-la land all day. The change from uniforms to costumes encourages them to take a holiday...Mardi Gras. We spend the day trying to keep a lid on the most outrageous behavior... forget instruction.

I am sorry that I was so non-responsive, but your request for suggestions just triggered this rant. Again, I am sooooo sorry.

At our school we do:
Hawaiian Day
Jersey Day (wear your team jersey)
Hat/Crazy Hair Day
Twin Day (this one is SO much fun!)
And of course, for the holidays we do colours. Hallowe'en is black and orange, Christmas is red and green, St. Patrick's day green, and Valentine's Day Pink.

We used to do Pajama day, but some of our grade 7s and 8s were wearing inappropriate things, so we canceled that one!

spirit week

at our school, we have monthly spirit day - wearing school colors. then, we have a spirit week where each day is something different (i think we do it all in a week because of things like previous poster - however our kids do behave well, or they lose the opportunity to dress up). I know lots of teachers that don't like this week - and I agree it may not be the easiest week of the school year, but I always think its good for the kids - it shows them the fun side of school. I remember spirit days in my own school as a kid - so i say lets give them the fun memories, within limits.

we have done things like wacky wednesday but then got away from that, inorder to reign them in. now we have pj day, funny hat day, sometimes we do crazy hair day, we've done rainbow day where each grade is assigned a color to wear, read-a-shirt day, inside out day or backwards day, i think that is about it. have fun!!

This was one that baffled me when I moved to Virginia. We have california cool day every year. It's a huge event. Kids where hawaiian/summer clothes with flip flops or some other beach type shoe. Then at lunch we sit on towels in the cafeteria (with our kids) and they play music. when kids are done eating they get to dance.

Those of you from California....Is this what Californians do regularly?

Dress Up

We have a real "Dress Up Day."

This means we dig deep in our closets to find nicer clothes.

Our principal finds some way to choose his words carefully, so that they are encouraged to dress appropriately, rather than wearing some type of elementary school prom get up.

Maybe I'm old school ~ but I love it!

It's great seeing them giving some thought as to how they look and taking pride in themselves!
