Bee Theme

I just finished buying a bunch of D.J. Inkers things to go with my Bee Theme. I think her stuff is so cute. I think this is going to be a great theme for the year. So far I have the following for my Bulletin Boards:

"Helping Our Hive Thrive" for my jobs board
"Beeing Honorable" to go with my classroom management system
"Bee-autiful Readers" to go with my AR and genre tracking
"Buzz On In", "We Beelong To Jesus" or "Bee Happy, Jesus Loves You!" for my beginning of the year board in the hall.

I have come across some great sites too.

If you have any other ideas, I would really appreciate you sharing. Thank you.

They are posted now. I had to save and then copy and paste each one in edit so I would loose my typing. (It had already happened once, so I had to retype the post.)

Bee Attitudes

I teach at a catholic school and I'm doing bee attitudes and it is part of my "class rules/procedures"

Title: I will choose to be:
responsible, honest, kind, prepared, respectful and loving

those incorrporate all the things I used to have in my old list of class rules. I have gone away from rules and gone to choosing things

I found a bee attitudes poster display thing from teacher created resources. it is Perfect!

I cut out 12 yellow hexagon shapes that were about 6 inches across, put them on a wall, wrote the months of the year on each one, then listed the students' names accordingly. (It had the effect of a honeycomb.)

Also, I saw where someone made the outside of their door look like a giant beehive, and the door was the entrance. Above the door was "Welcome to Our Hive".

Bee Theme

Hey,

I just finsihed up a year in 4th grade with a Bee theme. I mean everything was Bees. I'm expanding this year to include all insects. Here are some of my things that I can think of off of the top of my head. If you need others, just let me know!

Job Board - Busy Bees or Helper Bees
Outside the door I made a giant bee hive and put the kids' names on Bees with a sign that said "Buzzing into 4th Grade"
I made my rules on a giant bee hive (Just get a picture of a hive on a transparency and you can use to the overhead to make a giant poster)
My Homeowrk Club called "The Homeowrk Hive Club" and once they did their HW for the entire month their name goes on a bee by the Hive
Above my alphabet I made a sign that said "Buzz Along the ABCs"
My weekly trivia question is called the "Super Stinger"

I used a lot of the Carson Dellosa bee cutouts and boarders.

Great ideas from everyone, and we would love to hear more. Does anyone know a good back to school book that would go with the bee theme? If not I am going to use the Kissing Hand again, but I would rather use a good bee story. I suppose we could write our own in class, if anyone has ideas about that. Maybe I could read the kissing hand and then lead the children in using the same idea, but the Queen Bee could kiss the baby bees knee.... Thank you for sharing everyone.

This is a unit of study about bees if you are interested in further teaching in science.

I also came across this site:

http://iitc.tamu.edu/lessons/bees.html

I have also been looking at OSU Department of Entomology for more factual info on bees. The first site I found was University of Kentucky Department of Entomology and they talked about having an observation hive in your classroom. I don't think I am that brave....

We have a teacher in our school with a bee theme, and she has a sign over the door that says, "Mrs. ---, Queen Bee"

I love starting the year out with a bee theme! I like to read a poem together called the "Buzzing Bee" and we act it out. We also make bees for snack.

Take a swiss cake roll (one for each student)
Add two wings (pretzels)
Add the antennas and stinger (licorice)
And then use frosting to add yellow stripes

The kids love it!

I am using the Bee theme this year and for my birthday board I used Bee Hives with the names of the months on them and had bees with the students names and birthdays. I used the title How old will you Bee.
