Does anyone know of an interest inventory that you can give to students at the beginning of the year? I have access to a Multiple Intelligencies inventory, but I was looking for another resource. Thanks,

GD

I don't remember where I got this from-online somewhere, it is not my original idea. I don't know if you can use this but here is "My feelings about reading" (I can't find how to attach so I have cut and pasted):

Directions: Read each of the 10 statements about reading. Circle the response that tells what you feel or believe.

YES NO 1. Reading is a good way to spend spare time.
YES NO 2. Most books are too long and boring.
YES NO 3. There should be more free reading in school.
YES NO 4. Reading is fun.
YES NO 5. I learn from reading.
YES NO 6. I would rather read than watch television.
YES NO 7. Teachers ask me to read books that are too hard.
YES NO 8. I am not a very good reader.
YES NO 9. I read for fun at least once a day.
YES NO 10. My parents spend quite a bit of time reading.

I used an interest inventory that I got from a book called Yellow Brick Roads by Janey Allen. It's a good resource for teaching reading and writing, especially to kids who aren't that motivated. I have used a lot of questionnaires from lots of resources. I think whatever you find, you'll need to modify it for your own purposes. By the way, the kids really enjoy filling these things out!

Here is a reading interest inventory that I am going to use this year. It is adapted from the book Significant Studies for Second Grade. Please feel free to use it as you wish. Hope this helps!

This really helps me with ideas on shaping an interset inventory to best suit a 2nd grader...

I am looking for a Reading Inventory or some kind of pre/post test type of thing to give to my class. I teach on the year round calendar and want some more data before the regular calendar schools begin Dibels. Free is good too.

I was looking over the huge selection of discussions and found your this survey. I was thinking of just this kind of task for my new students and here you have created the perfect one. Thanks for making it available for others to use.
