Maybe you can try grid paper

My students make their own word searches with their spelling words. They use grid paper. They write their words forwards and diagonally. When all of their words are in, they fill in all the other spaces with nonsense words or letters.

This may be an option for you if you don't get a template.

You might also try www.puzzlemaker.com You can create lots of different kinds of puzzles, including wordsearch puzzles. If you want the students to create the puzzle and just need a template, you could probably use Microsoft Excel to create the grid pattern.
