Polka Dots...?

Hello! I am a first year third grade teacher and I love polka dots and thought I wanted to do a polka dot room...but the more I think about it and look into buying things I am not sure what to do! I have a large carpet (5X8) in my room that has large circles (dots) all over it. I am debating on whether or not I should just match my stuff to the colors in the rug or still try and stick to the polka dot theme...Can anyone give me some ideas how to incorporate polka dots into my room or if I should just give it up? Thanks!

i think polka dots would be very cute! but also hard to come up with ideas.

i thought for a behavior board you could say "get spotted being good" and use colored dot stickers.

then i thought maybe those large circles on your carpet could be bubbles, or spots, or gumballs, not necessarily 'polka dots'. that might give you more leeway.

spots are working in my head...
Welcome to the Best Spot in 3rd Grade (or is that rude to the other 3rd grade teachers? )

your newsletter could be The Spotlight

alright that's all i've got. hope this was a bit helpful.

How about tweaking it........"One of the Best Spots in the 3rd Grade" or "Be Spot On in 3rd Grade"..........I am still thinking. Ooooohhhh for a conflict resolution center you could have the "Stop Spot."

I don't know what colors are in your rug with the dots, but IKEA has some fun multi colored polka dot things. I have the mousepads (they are large white circles with red, blue, and yellow...i think...polka dots.) IKEA has matching boxes off all sizes that match- including magazine boxes which could be great in your reading center.

Go with the polka dots...it's different and fun!

You could always go with spotted animals in the room too. Dalmations and Ladybugs would be precious. You could add the spots to each child's ladybug or dog for good behavior. Just an idea.

Hi. My classroom is done in polka dots as well. I have polka dot curtains with lots of different colors. I ran across your post while I was looking for more polka dot related sayings. Here's what I have so far...

"Great Work Has Been Spotted" for my bulletin board

"Student Spotlight" for my student of the week

"The Reading Spot" for my reading corner (I think someone already mentioned that one)

In the past, I've done "Spotlight on Student Work".

Have you found anything else that hasn't been mentioned?

I forgot one more...

"Find Your Spot in Mrs. ____'s Class"

or

"Find Your Spot in ____ Grade"

I've put the first saying on my door with the kids names around it on solid circles.

I'm not sure what colors you have in mind but, a teacher at my school bought some fabric at Walmart that is polka dot and they are different sizes. They are blue, lime, and orange. She made a curtain out of it for her door. She also took her ceiling tiles and painted them those colors in random order, she painted one wall orange and left the others, she used all the colors for her filing cabinet and desk. She used them as frames on these not painting them solid. It looks really awesome!!!! I think that your kids will like the polka dots. All of the bulletin board saying that have been posted are really good too. This was just something that has been done. Don't know if it helps or not.

If you go with the polka dots, Target has magnetic letters with polka dots.
