Hi all! I was wondering about a 4th grade word wall. Does anyone use it and if so, is it similiar to the K-2 one? (putting up high frequency words)

I use my word wall to display commonly misspelled words, as the lower grades do. I also post important words from the science and social studies units I am teaching. I have a separate word wall for math.

Word Wall

My theme is stars. So I have a clear shower curtain hanging on my wall for my word wall. I have 4 different colors of stars I use - red for reading, green for SS, blue for science, and purple for math. I put up vocabulary words for the unit/chapters we are working on during that time. I interchange the words b-weekly or monthly. This is something I also use as a center where they practice the words with a partner.

I love the shower curtain idea!! Where do you hang it? What are some Vocabulary activities that you do? Please extend your thoughts. I'm new this year to 4th and use to 1st grade word walls and lessons.
Thans for the help!

transition words

I had more than one word wall. One had 3 clouds that had transition words for their writing. By 4th grade they need to get out of the "first, next, last" - so I gave them better words to use instead.

Another board they used for their writing was "wow" words. These were words to help get rid of overused words (said, like, etc...). It really made their writing pop!

Shower Curtain Word Wall

I have hung the shower curtain on my wall with those 3M plastic hooks - the large white ones. I don't so much center activities around it as use it to keep the word visible to the kids. We talk about the words and then I use painter's tape to hang the stars on the shower curtain. I resorted to this since I didn't have b-board space to staple the words. It was really the most practical thing to do given the circumstances.
