support group thread here for those of us trying to lose weight. I had yet ANOTHER realization today. I now realize that unfortunately court has become a reality for me in the very near future, from my injury 17 months ago. I am desperately trying to lose weight...and counting points started a couple days ago...I was just wondering if anyone else would like to join in on my journey. I know a while back we had a WW thread that I use to post on, but I haven't seen it around lately, and even if you aren't doing WW, and you're losing weight using some other method, I could really use some support right now, and I know if you're trying to lose weight, you probably could as well. I have lost weight before doing WW, lost 21 pounds, before my injury, and now I have re-lost that weight (is re-lost even a word??? )
and a few pounds more...I'm down 32 pounds...I have just GOT to keep going...at this point, I have a lot riding on it...my health most importantly.

So, is anyone interested? P.S. I'm 29, by the way...not that the whole age thing matters....(I'll be 30 in a few months) So time is of the essence here...lol.

P.S. I have over a hundred more pounds to lose...

I haven't done WW or anything like that. But support is a great idea. BTW, I'm 28 so I guess so far I'm the young whippersnapper in the group.

I would love to join in!! I just turned 30 last month and it started hitting home that it's now or never. I'm considering rejoining WW but I'm conflicted. I've had success with WW in the past but always gain it right back. I got a treadmill after my birthday and I have lost 6 lbs since getting it. My goal is 30 lbs!!!!

I'm turning 37 on the July 29th (and NO, I'm NOT old and it's not too late!!!) I lost a lot a weight a couple of years ago, but gained 20 pounds this year after switching districts and gaining a horrible, exhausting commute and joining a staff that likes to put food in the workroom. I was too tired to work out and gave in to the free food way too often.

I'm not on weight watchers, but I'm watching my calorie intake and trying to workout 5-6 times a week to get back to where I was last year.

I could use the support and I really believe it's never too late to get back on track.

My husband and I started counting points today... wow, 23 points is NOT a lot of food. The summer months are hard for me since I am home with all the food!

I do not want to lose a lot of weight just 10-12 pounds, but need the encouragement to work out and get exercise! I am thinking of joining Curves. I saw a commercial (sp?) today for a place called Butterfly life...anyone heard of it?? I could kick myself for not keeping active...I always have been until we moved last year...then I just quit! AAUUGGHH, it is hard to get going again!

Hopefully we can stick together and get healthy! I am 33 by the way....

I hope y'all enjoy this site as much as I did...I enjoyed the good laugh I got from reading these recipe cards...

the site is candyboots.com, and click on Weight Watchers recipe cards circa 1974....it is hilarious...one of those at the bottom was REALLY funny...mousse liver pate en masque? Trust me if my kid saw that on the plate for supper, I WOULD hear some comments about poop...lol.

Hope y'all enjoy

I would like to join also. I am sick of carrying this extra weight and being tired! We have no WW or gym where I live- small rural town. I have been trying by eating right and walking. And I could use the extra support as well. My husband was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and I don't want to end up the same! I am 33 and probably need to lose about 50 lbs!

I need to lose weight in a really bad way and I am an emotional eater. So needless to say when my grandparents passed away I had a really hard time so I ate and ate and ate and now I am way!!! past my weight goal. I am only 25 and I have already been diagnosed with hypogloceymia (sp?) three years ago. The first year I taught my body started to shut down from stress. So since I have been teaching I have been gaining weight and it is now out of control. I am getting ready to go on the 6 week body makeover program because it is where you eat every two hours which should keep my blood sugar level. I need all the support I can get.

I am going to my first WW meeting tonight with my Mom. I've never done it before, so I'm a little nervous.

I'm 27 (turn 28 in 2 1/2 weeks). I don't have a choice anymore! If I don't have some kind of dramatic loss in abut 6 months I'm going to have a gastric bypass. I refuse to die!! And my doctor told me that I'm going to if I don't drop this weight and get my diabetes under control.

Are we going to do it here or maybe Yahoo or MSN groups??

I too need to loose about 25-30 pounds. However, I know nothing about WW. I know that they are points and eatting right. I have done the South BEach/ Adkins thing for about 6 months and lost about 20 pounds. I need a change. What I need is someone to motivate me to exercise!

By the way I am 38. Guess that means that I am the old lady in the group!

I'm ready to sign up and join the group. I have been doing WW for about 2 1/2 weeks and have lost 5.5 pounds. Yea!!! I would love to do a thread. Should we post it daily??? Also, I go to the WW website to their community board. I get a lot of motivation from it. I go to the 50+ pounds to lose board and you don't have to have a membership to do it.

this is a thread....the part that I started
Old 07-17-2006, 02:13 PM

is called a thread....o.k....well here's what I'll do...I post a thread here once or twice a week, to see how everyone's doing with their weight loss, and y'all can private message me, or post a message here, if you need help, or information...I've done WW five times....
hopefully this will be the last.

This is the first time I got "into" Curves, though...and I loved it when I tried it out for free for two weeks back in May...I will be using my coupon at the end of this month...I got a $100 off enrollment coupon for Curves... gotta wait until I get paid again to join...lol..also some of the Curves are running specials for the summer.

I met some ladies at Curves who were doing the WW meetings at working out at Curves as well...

I have all the WW books that they give out at meetings, because I was a member for 14 weeks straight, when I was injured, and confined to a wheelchair, and had to spend almost 9 months to re-learn to walk again.

Here's a basic run- down for those who are new, or don't know about WW: no food is off limits. Your points you are allotted each day, depend on how much you weigh. After week 3, exercise is introduced, because they want to give you enough time to get used to using the points system, and get used to losing weight. After week 3, they give you a activity tracker, that you tells you how much each activity is worth in points, and you can either use these extra points, when you exercise, or choose not to. Also...there are two plans...one is the flex plan...you do points on this one...no food is off limits...the other is the core plan...some foods are off limits on this one, and although you don't have to track points, to me, I choose to do flex...so far...so good...

Gotta go...I'm going swimming...with my little girl and husband...

I would love to be part of your support group. I've got about 25 or 30 pounds to lose as well. I've been struggling with my weight my whole life, so I know what to do to lose. Sometimes it's just easier said than done. I don't use a particular diet - I just try to eat smaller portions, reduce my simple carbs, and load up on fruits, veggies and water. I lost twenty pounds a few years ago, and then every summer I lose a few more. I consider it a victory that I haven't gained any of it back. However, I'm an emotional eater. I do really well in the summer, but have a hard time once school starts. It's a vicious cycle as well - the more stressed out I get, the more I eat, and then the more I eat, the more stressed out I get. And then when I'm really on edge, I tend not to exercise. Anyway, I used to chat in a yahoo weight loss support room, and when I felt like bingeing, I'd hop on the computer. But I got really tired of the perverts trying to pick up women, and I haven't been on in a while.

I'd be really interested in good ideas for things to take to school for lunch. I'm still bored from last year.

Sounds like a great idea!

I'm 33, not on WW, but made my goal weight three years ago on a strict Atkins diet plan. I only gained the 10 lbs. back this past school year while dealing with more stress. My original idea was to stay home this summer and get work done on the "new" old house, walk daily around the neighborhood, and in general, take care of myself. That hasn't happened. I have resumed eating carbs, and have stayed indoors a lot due to the heat.

I want to lose between 10-12 lbs and tone up. How would a support group work? Here on this board??

I wanted to post again for those who are new to WW, or want more info on it...I also like to journal, as a way of helping me cope with the temptations...my meeting leader used to have a saying "If you bite it, write it."
I have found that writing helps me in being more accountable for what I am eating, and the amount of exercise I am putting in as well.

I also like to journal when I get stressed out about something...it just helps me feel more calm.

Today I had 32 points....
If I were writing this in my journal, it would look like this:
Breakfast - yogurt - 2 points; banana - 2 points
Snack- snack sized bag chips - 3 points
Lunch - sandwiches - ham/cheese-9 points
Snack - sunflower seeds - 1 serving - 4points;
Dinner - potato chips - 3 points; homemade hamburger lean ground beef -9 points.
I used all of my points today, and got in 30 minutes of swimming.

I am an oldie too, 36! I have been exercising and counting calories since our school year was over the end of May I have lost 25 pounds as of today. I still need to loose another 100 pounds. I have been on ww and have been a member of Curves, this time I am counting calories and walking daily for an hour 6 days a week. I have resorted to my treadmilll with ds IPOD, it is so hot and humid here in the Midwest that my walking trail outside is too miserable. I would like to be apart of the group any way I can so we can all continue to get healthy, both physically and mentally. Thank you.

I am 28 and have about 80lbs. to lose. I want to get back to what I weighed in highschool, 10 years ago. I have a lot of emotional issuses with eating and could use the support. I agree with Kar, I've had a weight problem my entire life so I know all the right choices to make it's just making them that I'm not good at. Although I am healthy (low blood pressure, no diabetes, good stamina), I want to break the vicious cycle that has plagued the women of my family. Thanks for this idea!

Has anyone done the online weight watchers instead of going to the meetings? I was wondering if the success was better or worse? I am too embarrassed to go back to the meetings in my town! I have joined and stopped several times and I know they recognize me when they see me coming!! I thought I might give the online version a try!! Thanks

I'm kinda hesitant. I know I'd love to have support, but I don't know how committed I'll actually be. You girls will have to keep me on the straight & narrow.

I think I'm the youngest so far, 24. I don't have a whole lot of weight to lose, but I'm trying to get pregnant, so getting in shape is something I really want to do.

I'm in too!! Looks like I'll be the old lady of the group!! I'm 41. I actually joined weight watchers last year, but didn't stick with it. Now I wish I had!!

I went to the doctor today to ask for a prescription weight loss pill. She basically told me that they don't work. She said that they will help you lose weight while you are on them, but you will gain the weight right back when you stop.

She said the BEST diet out there is Weight Watchers and the best gym is Curves.

So...I'm off to re-join weight watchers again tomorrow. I need to lose about 50 pounds. Wish me luck..and I'd love to post here!!

I turn 35 tomorrow and I am very frustrated about my weight. I would love to lose 40-50 pounds, but I don't know how realistic that is. I currently wear a size 16/18 and would love to wear a 12/14 (since all my favorite clothes in my closet are that size). I am going to a conference in early December where I will see an old high school friend. I would love to be that size 14 (or possibly 12) by then. My problem is a lack of energy or will power or something. I would rather read a good book than do anything active. How do you all find the will power to exercise?

I could use the support - I like to snack on the great food groups of chocolate and chips!
I want to lose about 50 pounds. My family has a Y membership so that is where I go.... I haven't been there for a month now... it's so hard going back when you've stopped!

So, we're posting here?

Thanks REB! What a great idea. I turned the big 40 in May. I lost 38 pounds from last may to this May. I haven't done anything in June or July so far so this will really help.

I did buy the Gazelle Trainer from Home Shopping Last week. I really do not like Tony Little but I think the product will work. I got it Friday and put it together Sunday night. I did get on it Sun night and several times Monday. Hopefully this is what I need to kick start me again.

There is a good website that lists points for all types of foods for those on weight watchers. It asks for a dollar but you dont have to send it.

http://www.dwlz.com/

A friend of mine who has lost 48 lbs on WW swears by it.

Thanks Again REB.

I'm 24 and interested in losing too. It gets so HARD doing it by yourself. My first year teaching (2 years ago) I was so nervous I couldn't eat. The sight of food made me sick. I probably ate minimally for 3 months and lost like 30 lbs. Amazingly they stayed off even when I was less stressed and could actually eat. I'm not suggesting starving yourself I"m just mentioning what jump started me. Now I'd like to lose another 40 lbs. I'm 5'9 and I weight like 204 lbs. I used to weigh 160. I'm tired of wearing a size 16 and looking lumpy in pictures. I'm already gargantuan compared to my wee little first graders! Anyhow so I've been eating balanced meals and drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. I also go to the gym 4-5 days a week and work out for an hour or hour and a half. The progress is slow but I'm feeling good. Oh god I just reread what I wrote and I sound terribly vain! I promise I'm not it really is a health thing for me too. I have a bad knee from an old injury (well several over and over again) and less weight = less impact = less pain.

Wow! It's like you read my mind. I am also turning 30 in a few months and I have been getting more and more worried about my weight. I guess I need to lose about 40 kgs. I don't have the opportunity to go to WW because I live in an isolated area and I also don't have anyone around me having the same issue with weight. I have lost a dress size and have kept it off for a while now. I am ok at eating healthy when I put in the effort, it's the exercise part I find hard. I have a treadmill put away. I must take it out and get back on track. I think this is a great opportunity to give eachother some moral support.

For those of you that do not have a WW near you or who don't want to go to WW in person. You can join online. That is what I am doing and it is only around $16 per month. I go to the site daily and go to the discussion boards. It is very motivating.

Rachel,

Daughter is doing the WW thing online, and is having much success. (Her husband has lost weight, too.) She is very happy with it, and it seems like a well-rounded plan. I, personally, don't like any diet which eliminates any one type of food. I don't think any food should be off limits. As long as you make the right choices the majority of the time, you should be allowed an indulgence every now and then.

I was thinking about a support group too. I think this sounds great, I would love to join and need to lose about 50 - 60 lbs. I am a emotional/stress eater and am really worried about gaining more as this is my first year teaching. I keep telling myself to get in gear but I always make excuses! Trying to move to a new state, get ready for school from 300 miles away, I am going crazy!!! Eating more to make up for the stress. I really need the help and encouragement.

An alternative to WW

I'm not a member of Weight Watchers, but I do need to track. I found a website called www.fitday.com where you can set up a free account to help you track your calorie intake and the amount of calories burned through exercise and lifestyle. There's other on-line food journal sites for free, too.

I always throw this out there, too. I got into exercise through videos/dvds. There's some great ones on the market and I love the variety and the fact I can do it anytime I feel like it. If interested, there's a great consumer site called www.videofitness.com. The people there are extremely friendly and knowledgable about videos, exercise, etc. I usually lurk, but learned a lot by doing that.

Just throwing these out there.

All this sounds great. I'm 52 years young and want to lose 10 pounds. I've never had much of a problem with my weight until I hit 50. For me that was the magic number. I went up two sizes almost overnight. I've lost 6 lbs. this past spring. I've never tried ww. I watch what I eat and try to eat what's good for my body. I think what's holding me back from losing any more weight is the not exercising. All of this makes me want to get on my treadmill and get to walking!! Thanks!

I don't know how much water you drink, but I'd suggest drinking more. Dehydration can cause headaches. Drinking more water can't hurt anyway.
I've got a headache now too, but that's because I am giving up soda. No more Diet Pepsi for me.

This is a great idea. I'm 34 and would like to lose 15-20 pounds. I am trying to motivate myself to join weight watchers but always have an excuse such as My husband does not get home till 7:00 or later each night so who will stay with my children while I go to meetings. My mom is doing weight watchers and is trying to get me to go. I have thought about doing it online but don't know if I can stay motivated that way. Having this support will definitely help!

I joined ww last week online. It has been a big help. My daughter and I are doing it together. We had a great first week and are off to week 2. I hope we all have a good day of watching what we eat. Good luck!

I am so excited by the response here! I did well yesterday tracking my points (I get 32 points a day.) I am doing the flex plan right now, that doesn't require me to cut out any food, which I think is wonderful! I have lost two pounds since Sunday. The first ten pounds is always the easiest for me to lose, and then after that, it's like ounces coming off, instead of pounds. I have started drinking only 2 diet cokes a day (I was up to drinking 6 regular cokes a day, before I started making an effort to take off the weight back in April, and May...) What I have started doing now, is trying to drink half of a diet coke, and then drink a glass of water after it, (in an effort to make me have a sense of fullness quicker), and then follow up with the other half of the diet coke later, if I'm still thirsty. (This helped me ween myself off of regular Cokes, plus I'm getting in a lot of water that way as well.)
I also realized that my favorite yogurt doesn't have to be boring....I found a little trick to making it taste even better - I put one serving (3/4 c) of Maple Pecan Crunch cereal in a bowl and mix the yogurt with it...it tastes better! And, it's 2 points for the Low-fat Creamy Strawberry Yogurt, and 4 for the cereal, so that's only a 6 point breakfast.

Also, I love to eat at fast food places, so I made sure to grab my Dining Out Companion, before I went to drop my little girl off out of town, at the grandparents today, since I knew I would be eating out, probably at Wendy's (which I LOVE)...I ate there for only 11 points, and I had a diet coke, baked potato plain (I brought my own Mrs. Dash to sprinkle on there, and ordered a ultimate chicken grilled sandwich (plain)..so that was an 11 point meal for lunch today.

Also, I like to snack of sugarfree gum...I found one I absolutely LOVE...it's Trident and on one side is sweet pieces, and the other side sour pieces...it's strawberry flavored...and it keeps me from snacking between meals, so more power to it...lol.

Also, I do like an occassional snack, and the low point drinks at Sonic, are iet Cherry Limeaide, Diet Strawberry Limeaide, a vanilla dish is only 6 points....just a thought for those of y'all, like me, that have to have that something sweet each day.

I hope everyone is having fun, and not stressing out yet...afterall...we are IN THIS TOGETHER!!!!

I am 25 and joined WW 7 weeks ago. I have lost 9 pounds so far and have a goal of losing around 50. I have really enjoyed WW so far with counting points because I can still eat anything I want. The only restriction is "how much" to eat. WW has made me more aware of what I am eating throughout the day.

I am nervous about going back to school this year though because my team is always bringing in junk food to put in our resource room. Ahhhh!

I love the idea of a support group. Keep up the good work. We deserve it!

I do need to drink some more water... I have been slowly increasing it as the days go by. I am up to 5 glasses per day. I HATE water... so boring!

After reading your post, I realized that I had not had any caffeine all day! That is where the headache came from. I am slowly trying to wean myself from caffeine. I LOVE regular Pepsi, can't stand diet anything! So this is really a challenge for me! (A Pepsi is 3 points)

I found a great snack for me today! I had 1 cup of red grapes (1 point) and 1 serving of pretzels (2 pts). With a bottle of water.... filled me right up!

I love more than anything that I am eating healthier... I am not concerned with the points as much as cutting out a lot of junk!

I am the junk food queen!

Keeping up

I am getting ready to start the michael Thurman program as soon as it comes in. I know that it is close to my plan that my doctor put me on for hypogloceymia (sp?) and so I know that it will be a good plan for my blood sugar problem. On that plan you have to eat every 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours. That is the part that I find hard is eating so much food. I don't eat a lot of food as it is and that is way my doctor say that everything that I eat stays with me. SHe said that my body does not accept losing anything because my sugar is unbalanced and my body feels starved for what it needs so it keeps everything. So I am going to try really hard to eat all this food and I should see pretty quick changes I imagine. I have been trying to cut off the caffine totally and I have only had a few slip ups. I have been drinking over a 100 oz of water a day. However I have been sick the past four days so I have not felt good regaurdless of how much water I have been drinking. I hope everyone else has been having a great day and sticking to whatever plan you are on. Good Luck

I was on WW but now am doing it myself could not afford anymore!! I have lost 25 lbs so far since Feb. I was staying the same for a long time it seemed like now I am back on track. Summer is hard when you are home more and food is easier to find. For those that do not like water-I am one of those I bought a water bottle that holds 32 ounces at a time. I fill it up at night so it is cold in am and that is what I drink-but I do usually add crystal light to it-which the lady at WW said was fine to do as long as I am getting my water intake in each day. I am now up to about 96 ounces of water a day. I usually drink the first one in am without the crystal light and then I fill it up again after it has been in the fridge for a while again. One pack of crystal light is 10 pts. and I add 2 to each bottle so I count it as 1 pt for my water intake for the day because i add it. Good luck to all and lets keep this going!!!!

I sent out some more weight watchers recipes to those that asked. Sorry to anyone who received them twice. (I did not pay attention to who I sent them to in the first place!)

You're inspiring me! Question about WW...

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread! It is motivating me to get serious about working on maintaining the weight loss I've had with a program similar to South Beach. I've had to eliminate a lot of high carb foods (read that as 'eat nothing white') so I'm thinking WW will allow me to eat a wider range of foods, yet still help me maintain or even increase my weight loss.

I, too, had been considering WW, so I was wondering: How do they determine how many points you can have?

Thanks, again, to everyone!

I joined ww online a few days ago. I am allowed 20 points a day. That just does not seem like very many. I am having a lot of trouble keeping within that limit. In fact I have not been able to do it yet. This is making me very discouraged. I want to lose the weight but am going to have trouble changing my habits. I have been eating the wrong things at lunch time and use up the majority of my points before dinner time. Having a three year old and a five year old to prepare meals for also makes it hard. I know these are just excuses and I need to change my attitude. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.

Wow! I just got back from my WW meeting and I lost 4.2lbs this week. I was ecstatic. Thus far, it had only been 1-2lbs a week at best. I learned this week that activity does wonders. Cheerleading started this week, and with the heat... practice has been 2hrs of pure intensity. Although I am still not discipline enough to do my own workouts at home, I am greatful cheerleading has started.

Keep up the good work all and remember to drink your water. If you are having trouble with it, try adding those individual Crystal Light packs. They have really helped me.

I guess I am one of the seniors of this bunch at 42, but that is just a number. I have 3 kids ages 15, 10 and 5. I will be teaching 3rd grade after being in a resource classroom where I only taught math and science for the past three years. I am really feeling the stress of change. I need to lose about 12 pounds but getting into good eating habits is difficult and will be more so when school starts on Aug. 1. thanks for the support.

Finding motivation

Well, my plans to do some kind of activity every day isn't going very well. I did do an ab workout video one day this week and today I bought a gym ball and did the workout DVD that came with it. I have plenty of workout tapes and DVDs, including fun things like a hula workout. My problem is finding the motivation to do them daily. I started giving myself a star (literally, on my little chalkboard) for every workout. I want to reward myself once I reach 20 stars. However, I can't think of an appropriate reward. Somehow I don't think a hot fudge sundae is a good idea. Do any of you reward yourself with anything? What other ways do you motivate yourself? I really need to lose this weight.

If I can manage to lose 30 lbs. I'm going to reward myself with an ipod. I've wanted one for awhile now, but they are so expensive-even with the educator discount.

Some less expensive daily rewards:

go to the movies- get to look at Brandon Routh in those tights, yum.
rent a dvd-wolverine for days
browse at a used book store
bubble bath

So I have been eating pretty good and going to the rec center three times a week for the past two weeks. Today I broke down and bought a digital scale and lo and behold, I am down 7.5 pounds. I am so exstatic!

As for the rewards, I was thinking if I can stick to my planned workout days until the middle of August, I would treat myself to a manicure or pedicure before school started. I also have a calendar I scheduled in my workout days and orinted out. I get a smiley face if I go. My goal is 20 times b.c my punch card has 20 punches.

Keep up the good work!

I do, or ok, I have the WW online. I need to DO it now! I would love to join this group. I have lost 65 lbs about 8 years ago and I have slowly gained it back because I stopped working out. Anyway, I know I can do it again and I've been putting off starting. New school year, new grade level this year so why not a new me.

About WW online. The biggest thing about WW online is that you have to stay involved with some sort of support group. This is a perfect one because we understand each other's stresses!

I haven't finished reading all the posts but I will definately be the old lady here, I'm 45. I'm a young 45 though <wink>.

Lets do it!
