Do you have any neat ideas how to teach gravity to first graders? Thank you.

I would do some inquiry and discovery with objects and dropping them and then have them discuss and record their findings in their science journals. After some that you could give them a guided question: "why does the object fall to the ground?" You could use visuals to show the center of gravity etc.

Here is a cute song:

Thereís a force,
Thereís a force,
Thatís all around
Pulling things down
To the ground.

And what goes up
Must come down
And we call it gravity.

Isaac Newton made a discovery
When he saw an apple fall from a tree.
So he told the world of the force we canít see
And we call it gravity.

Gravity, itís all around the universe.
Gravity, we just canít see.
Gravity, itís holding you and me.
Gravity, gravity, gravity.

Gravityís a force thatís out in space
Holding all the planets in their place.
Gravity here, all around everywhere,
And we call it gravity.
And we call it gravity.

I took a workshop earlier this year using this as a resource. It gave you excellent ideas/resources for many science concepts. Click on http://www.nsta.org/store/product_de.../9781933531120
for more information.

For the Gravity lesson, which we did today. I read the book Roller Coaster and we discussed how roller coasters move. Through the course of the book and discussion we talked about how gravity makes it go down. We then pretended to go down on a rollercoaster and made faces of what we would look like on sticky notes and shared.

Finally we used pipe insulating material to make a track for our own roller coaster. We designed one together and used a marble to make it go. The students loved it.
