Pirate decorations arrived!

I ordered several things from partyadventures.com and it all arrived today. I need some help with some ideas though. I have a large plastic anchor and captain's ship wheel. I need a job board and a bulletin board. I am going to do a pirate ship for my behavior board and title it "Don't walk the plank." My reading area is going to be the Reading Cove titled "Reading is a Treasure." I had thought of doing something with "Swabbing the Deck" for my job chart. My calendar will say Ahoy, Mateys! Outside my door I have jewel cut-outs that I will put each child's name on and title it "Mrs. Freeman's Treaures." I would love to have some creative ideas! Thanks for all of your help.

what about....

I was just thinking about this, because of that M&M's commercial that comes on...what about for the jobs board you use your captains wheel, and in the middle put a spinner on it, and title it "Let's Rock the Boat!", and maybe either draw a picture of a pirate ship, or have picture of one featured on it...so the captains wheel is the biggest part, since it's the job board...

I was just thinking, depending on what that one looked like, you might could laminate it, and make a space on the captain's wheel itself for the student's names and their jobs...if it had little dividing parts in the wheel, all the way around it...(I hope that didn't sound confusing...)

I love that idea! I also could use the phrase "Don't rock the boat" and use it for my behavior board. I also like the idea of using the wheel to show the jobs. Thank you so much!

Oriental trading has some cute things.

Pirate pencils, "gold" coins to use as behavior incentives (candy and non).

On a web page soewhere, they showed how to make hats out of newspaper. It was the Geor.Wash style.

Here are some other ideas you could use in your room for bulletin boards, etc.

• “Mapping our way through ______ grade”
• “Work to Treasure” – student work
• Jobs – Pirate Ship – “Captain’s First Mates” or
"This Week's Crew"
• “______ Grade Treasures” – Welcome board - gold coins
or jewels with student pictures in them
• gold, silver, bronze coins or colored jewels for behavior chart
• “Reading is a real treasure!”
• The Pirate’s Cove – reading center
• "Get caught up in a good book/science, etc" (net)

Just some more ideas! Good Luck!

Hi,
I am going to do a bulleting board for AR with pirates. The title is ARRRRRR. I am going to put their names on jewels and keep track of points for motivation. The treasure chest will be filled with chocolate gold coins and goodies for those who reach mile stones with reading. Just an idea for you. I like your ideas as well.

Hi ~

I did a Back to School bulletin board last year with a pirate theme. I made the coins have the kids names on it.

Good luck.

I have just learned that I will be teaching fourth grade this year in NC so when I saw your pirate idea I was thrilled. We teach NC history and with all the many pirate history in our state I am so excited to get started.

One idea for showing good work throughout the year...
Argghh! That is some good work.
Rough I know but maybe you could run with it.

Thanks for your help with this great idea.

pirate theme

I am doing a pirate theme too. I have a pirate outside my door holding a scroll with- Ahoy Matey's, Welcome to Mrs. Griffin's Pirate Cove and in the other hand is a book cover of Junie B. Jones Shipwrecked. I cut out the gun & cutlass so he could hold things in his hands.

My word wall says-There be treasure in those words!

Class Matey's-

Other things I am using-

Yo Ho Matey’s!
Sailing into great math facts:
Shiver me timbers ADDITION
Swab the deck SUBTRACTION
Walk the plank MULTIPLICATION
Land lubbers DIVISION

"Gold"-en Rules
First, ye must be safe!
Second, ye be responsible for your plunder!
Third, ye be of good cheer and peace!
Fourth, ye be kind and respectful!
Fifth, ye understand orders and obeys them!

I also made a wanted poster & I'll take their picture with my digital camera. At the bottom, I added -wanted for, & description of villan.

Hope these suggestions help. Joanne

We have a school theme of "Shine." I took it to a treasure chest filled with shining gems. For my job board I found large treasure chest note pads to write the job titles, and scrolls for the student names. I like the ideas you have also received since your first post! My whole theme is "he Treasure of Learning" and "Find your hidden treasure." Thank you!!

I am also doing a pirate theme this year. I have labled my reading center Treasure Island. At open house I am going to have the parents and students go through a treasure hunt finding class rules, class library etc. and end at a treasure chest with a few school supplies to choose from. My word wall is a fisshing net with seashells I have collected with the letters of the alphabet. I would love to hear if you come up with anything else. On my bathroom doors I have buccaneers for the boys but I do not know what tp put on the girls. I am afraid wench would be a little inappropriate.
