Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm currently interning in a blended 1st-2nd grade classroom and have my first solo week coming up. Our current theme study involves community and during the week I am teaching the students are learning about "goods". I would GREATLY appreciate any activites and books that I could use during the week! Thanks!!!!

I teach third grade so I do not know if this idea will work for you in first/second. After discussing the difference between goods and services have some pictures of each to discuss. When the class has decided that the boy getting a hair cut in the picture is receiving a service then paste it on a big mural of paper in the room labeled "SERVICES". Then they can put the picture of the bread isle at the grocery store on the "GOODS" mural on the other side of the room. They might cut out pictures from magazines to add as well.

I make a chart of a "to do list." (i.e.- get haircut, buy groceries, car wash, etc). Then we list what I pay for and whether I am paying for a good or service. Other ideas: create a map of a town and its businesses and then sort for goods and services. We read A New Coat for Anna for this, too.
