Does anyone have any great tricks for teaching a.m. and p.m.? My class this year seems to be struggling with the concept.

We talk about the fact that "a" comes before "p," so a.m. comes first in the day.

I teach this in calendar. We have a chart with all the hours on it. We chart what we're doing at each hour. We also make each hour on the clock. We only do one hour per day so it takes us 24 days to get through it. I found a picture of it which you'll probably understand better than if I tried to explain. I hope it helps!

One of my second grade students gave us this idea: AM means: about morning, PM means: past morning.
This really helped! From the mouth of Babes!!!
