Classroom Theme/ Class Motto

So I have been thinking if I wanted to do some sort of class theme and I don't really want to do something cutesy like animals or something, but would like a class motto or quote to go along with my room. I love this poem:

Poem: The Bottom Line

The Bottom Line

"FACE IT, nobody owes you a living.
What you achieve, or fail to achieve in your lifetime
Is directly related to what you do or fail to do.
No one chooses his parent or childhood,
But you can choose your own direction.
Everyone has problems and obstacles to overcome,
But that too is relative to each individual.
NOTHING IS CARVED IN STONE!
You can change anything in your life
If you want to badly enough.
Excuses are for losers! Those who take responsibility for their actions
Are the real winners in life.
Winners meet life challenges head on
Knowing there are guarantees, and give it all they've got
And never think it's too late or too early to begin.
Time plays no favorites
And will pass whether you act or not
Take control of your LIFE
Dare to Dream and take risks......
Compete!
If you aren't willing to work for your goals Don't expect others to.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

I am just not sure how to work it in. Any ideas?

I'm not sure how to work it into a bulletin board. But maybe it could be something the class recites or signs in agreement to. Maybe they could discuss what the poem means to them and how it makes them feel. Maybe discuss personal goals and make those into a bulletin board? What grade do you teach?

We're IN it to WIN it!
If you can believe it, you can achieve it

Make it a Great day (or not)... The Choice is Yours!

Maybe do a search on motivational phrases - there's a good one about losers making excuses, but I can't think of it right now.

I would try to keep the message POSITIVE. While the poem above is good, it comes across a bit negative. There is one called Don't Quit I will try to find an electronic copy and attach it.

Don't Quit!

When things go wrong
As they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging
Seems all uphill,
When the funds are low
And the debts are high,
And you want to smile

But instead you cry,
When care is pressing
You're down a bit -
Rest if you must,
But don't you quit.

Success is failure
Turned inside out,
The silver tint of
The clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell
How close you are,
It may be near when
It seems so far.

So stick to the fight
When you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst

That you must not quit.

Perhaps you could break the poem down into single or double lines, and ask individual or partnered students to create a poster to go with each line/set of lines. Then you could hang them in order around the room. You could hang some clouds or stars to go with the idea. The effect would be student-created and not too cutesy.

i have something motto in here:

easy love, easy to cry but difficult to say goodbye

its easier to destroy than to create

you're only scared to die when you ain't living right

you cannot judge the book by its cover

if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything

laziness is the cornerstone of efficiency

life bring us tears, smiles, and memory:the tears dry, the smiles fade, but memories last forever:

tnx thats all!

hehhehehhe
