Short texts for teaching reading strategies

I am looking for an exhaustive list of short texts to use to teach each of the seven reading strtegies. I teach fifth grade. I use the Comprehension Toolkit and do like it. However, I need many more sample pieces of short texts to model each of the strategies. Any help would be appreciated.

I used the toolkit this year and I found many pieces of short text on sites such as national geographic explorer, and TFK. I also used articles from our local newspaper. The kids really related to these. I also used a site that someone gave me here. It's at school right now so I don't know it. Maybe someone here can give it to you. It has short articles (newspaper I think) and then questions to go with it. I didn't always use the questions but sometimes I did. I found it to be very helpful.

Thank you, Carolyn, for your sites for finding short texts. I apologize for not replying to your message sooner, but, just after school was out, our computer was found to be heavily virus-infected, so it has just been stripped, cleaned, and just now up and running. This is my first time to get back to Pro Teach since June.

I am excited to look up the sites you mentioned. I do have the Comprehension Toolkit and find it very useful. I am in the process of trying to locate many examples of shorter texts spanning genres as well as strategies.

If anyone else know the site Carolyn mentions in her message, please reply.

Locating a healthy file of short texts is challenging, and, I am finding, you can't have enough. They are extremely effective for strategy instruction and practice! Thanks for sharing!

Here are a couple that I have found:

google fcrta and click on reading strategies with literature.

I had another one but I cannot find it. My son is wanting to go walking. If I find it when I get back, I'll post it.
