I plan on using this book and wondered if anyone had activities to go along with it or know of a site that has activities for this book. LOVE THIS SITE!

Hey, Tish!
I don't have any activities to go with First Day Jitters, but I plan to read it, too. I'm just going to use it as discussion starter to help students see that everyone, even the teacher, gets a little anxious in a new situation. Then I'm going to do a community building/getting to know you activity. I'm not sure which one yet -- maybe a Find Someone Who structure.

BTW, I was just wondering if you know about the Violet Room? It's a place where some teachers are discussing and sharing ideas about ways to use picture books for instruction in all content areas, especially for reading and writing. I know there have been some posts about First Day Jitters. You can access the Violet Room by going to the ProTeacher Community homepage, clicking on Meeting Rooms, and clicking on Violet Room.

The students could write a letter about something they had first day jitters about before coming to school. They could also write advice for someone starting their grade so they wouldn't be nervous.

Hope they help. I also found a recipe for Jitter Fritters (no bake) but I can't find the file. I'll post if I locate it. You might try to search for the recipe. I think it may have been a Scholastic activity.

I used the book on my first day and then I had students write about a time when they felt they had jitters. The writing came out really nice and gave me a really good idea on the first day what their writing skills were.

Thanks for the ideas! I just heard of this book the other day, and this morning I picked up two copies--one for me and one for the new teacher I am mentoring. It's such a cute story. I plan on reading it on the first day of school, and I appreciate the ideas you have all shared!

I think this is a great language arts activity at all age levels. I even used it for my sixth grade students and they enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
