Getting to know you

Happy Thursday everyone,
I am about to begin my after school Talented and Gifted Program and I'm looking for an icebreaker/getting to know you activity. It is a small group of 9 students. Last year I did Three Truths and a Lie, where the kids secretively write three true things about themselves and one believable lie. Once they are done, we share them one at a time and the other kids have to pick out which one was the lie. This way we get to learn three things about each of the kids. They loved this, and I am now looking for a similar activity to do this year!

Ideas

Two ideas come to mind.

1. You could have the kids do me bags. Give each child a lunch sack to decorate. THey then put five items that represent something about themselves into the bag. Have each child share his bag and items with the group. My third graders love this and it also gives them a chance to find things in common with one another. I also learn a lot about the child right away.

2. Me collage - This allows a more artistic sharing opportunity. Have each child creat a collage on a poster board and then share it with the group. This one would take more time to create. The other choice only needs them to have one night at home.

Hope this helps.
