Clothesline in classroom

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have three clotheslines in my first grade room. I was going to have them removed this summer until a colleague encouraged me to hold off. I'm glad I listened! Seeing Mrs. Croak's post and picture of a clothesline word "wall" (love it!) got me to thinking.

Anyone have other creative ideas for clotheslines aside from displaying student work and anchor charts?

I don't have any clothes lines in my classroom, but I saw some neat ones today at Dollar Tree and I wanted to buy them, but I didn't know what I would use them for. I don't need it for my word wall, but will be interested to see if others have suggestions on what to use them for.

I have had a clothes line word wall like Mrs. Croak. In fact I had one before the called them word wall. It was my "hanging" dictionary. I used to be able to climb up and stand on the shelves to staple my words. But I have gained so much weight it I now have a ladder. I used to think my word wall had to be on a wall. Thanks to Mrs. Croak I know fine minds think alike.

I've wanted to put up a clothesline using two really large canned good cans filled with plaster of paris and stick a dowel rod in each of them. That way I'll be able to pull it out and put it up. I'd have the kids order letters in words, events in social studies, matching words to pics, math facts to answers, study guide questions to answers, students pictures to their names, etc.

Keep the clothesline! I use mine to display student work and they love it. I hang mine above the windows so I do not need to use a ladder which means I can easily change this. I use paper clips to display the work, but you could also use clothespins. I like the paper clips because I keep them up all year, you can't really see them, and they easily display anything I wish. I also like the idea of using it for a word wall, but I like to have mine at the student's eye level.

I would like to see the word wall clothes line. Is it very student friendly? My word wall is at eye level and I would like to know how well does the
clothesline word wall works for the students.
