I found this poem on another site and added some clip art. I plan to use these, along with stickers or some other treat, to "encourage" students to keep desks neat and clean. I thought others might like to use it too
Our first day was today and I told my students all about the desk fairy that comes in at night and looks for clean desks. I usually just put a piece of candy in their desks, but this would be SO cute to put in their desks as well! Thanks for letting me "steal" this!
I love using the desk fairy -- my kids try all year long to figure out who leaves them treats and notes -- and finally I beg someone to "admit" they did it (even though it was me!) Haha. Little do they know... Each year it's somebody different at the end of the year and the old classes tell the new classes to see if they can figure it out. It's become a challenge to figure it out before the person reveals.
Thanks, I love it! This is cute! I know they might be a little old for this but I'm going to try it with my fourth graders. And obviously I Love fairies!
I use the desk fairy too, but my forms aren't as cute. I always like to leave a note to let those who didn't have a clean desk that they need to clean theirs. I love your notes, so I'm printing. I'm not super with computers, but I was able to change the wording to make a set that says:
The Clean Desk Fairy was at your desk last night.
What she found was quite a sight!
Please clean your desk today!
I have a card I give the kids that has the same fairy on it. When I showed my team last year one of the other teachers found a 'BOY' fairy so we would have ones for girls and boys.
The 'boy' fairy is really a little fat man with wings and a wand. I don't know where she found it but it's hilarious!
I just wanted to join the other 10 or so teachers in saying, Thank you for this adorable idea! Im a student teacher, and Im always looking for cute ideas like this for my files so that when Its my turn to teach, I will have lots of ideas to look at! Do you have any other cute ideas like these? Thank you!!!
Love it! I've done the desk fairy before but I like this cute little certificate! Thanks!
I also do a Desk Monster...don't have it saved on line...but it's a little clip art creature, like a hairball, that says, "This looks like a nice place for me to live, but your teacher can't stand to find me here. Better clean up this desk right away!"
Only problem was that one year a few boys thought the desk monster was so cool that they didn't want to clean their desks....had to start leaving better desk fairy treats to motivate them!
Love, Love , LOVE the poem!!! Thank you!!! I have used the "Desk Fairy" idea for years and my third graders love it! I sprinkle a little bit of gold or silver glitter on their desks at the end of the day and tell them the fairy left her fairy dust for them beacuse their desks were so neat! They can then come up and get a treat! Fun! Have a great year!!!
When I was in elementary school my teacher had the class visited by the "Dastardly Dumper"....he would dump the contents of the messy desks on the floor. During morning work that person had to clean up their desk contents from the floor. She would always give warning that the DD was coming, and would give everyone the option to stay in during recess the day before to clean-so the only people who got their desks dumped were the ones that didn't choose to clean their desk.
I made business cards (for free) at vistaprint.com that are a note from the Desk Fairy.
The kids love it when the Desk Fairy visits. When they ask me if the Desk Fairy is real I ask them if they believe in the Tooth Fairy. They are sisters, you know
I'll have to try the desk fairy. Several of students have come in to find that their desk was so overstuffed it threw up! Unfortunately, the "clean" didn't last. When I've mentioned this disorganization and mess to parents, they usually recognize it right away. "Oh that's nothing! You should see his bedroom!" Some kids are naturally neat, others need to be trained.
That is so cute. We use the Magic Cleaning Fairy which really is our custodians. Each night they leave an award certificate in the cleanest room along with a magic wand. At the end of each semester, the room with the most awards wins a pizza party. It works like a charm.
I started using this a few months ago and almost all of my students are keeping their desks clean and organized. At the end of the day, I've noticed some of my students cleaning and organizing their desks while we are packing up. This works very well!! Try it if you have not.
