kindergarten transition songs/chants

Clip to ScrapBook #1

this is my first year teaching kindergarten. over the summer i would like to build a collection of songs/chants to use as transitions. I realized that i have numerous attention signals but next to no transitions.

what transitions have you found to be most effective? what is a good place to look for transitions (hopefully something i wouldn't have to buy)?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

You would have to buy this but its only 1 CD. I love Dr. Jean All Day Long. There are great songs on there to use for transitions. Check it out at her website. drjean.org

Here's some I can think of off the top of my head that aren't on the cd...
Lining Up
T:Facing
S: Forward

T: Arms
S: Crossed

T:Bodies
S:Still

T:Voices
S:Off!

Clean Up
Clean up, Clean up, everybody everywhere, clean up, clean up, everybody do your share.

Coming to Circle
This is the way we come to circle
Come to circle come to circle
This is the way we come to circle
so early in the morning

This is the way we sit right down
sit right down, sit right down,
This is the way we sit right down
so early in the morning

This is the way we fold our hands
fold our hands, fold our hands
this is the way we fold our hands
so early in the morning.

Getting Wiggles Out
I wiggle, wiggle my fingers.
I wiggle,wiggle my toes
I wiggle,wiggle my shoulders.
I wiggle,wiggle my nose
Now no wiggles are left in me.
So i will be as still as can be.

I've posted this one before but it's my all time favorite so here it is again

Sung to the tune of "Do your ears hang low?"

Can you clap, clap, clap?
Can you snap, snap, snap?
Can you wiggle, wiggle, wiggle?
Can you slap, slap, slap? (slap hands on knees)
Can you wrap your arms around yourself
And give yourself a hug?
Can you sit quietly on the rug?

When we are finished with calendar time and are going back to our seats we sing : This is my place, This is my space, I may travel all over but this is my place, my space. They sing this as they go to their seats.
When I need quiet we sing to the tune of fere jacques --i am waiting, I am waiting, please be quiet, please be quiet. For lining up we sing to the tune of shortin bread everybody line up, everybody line up, not on the ceiling, not on the floor, everybody line up at the door.

The lining up transition was on PT from AddieJ.
The other two are from our reading program and we're required to teach them during the Getting Started portion of the program.

thanks Kelly. I thought I had seen them before but couldn't remember where.

I like these two easy transitions for quieting students & getting them ready to listen (they're probably classics among k teachers!):

Open, shut them (open fists, close fists)
Open, shut them
Give a little clap, clap, clap

Open, shut them
Open, shut them
Place them in your lap, lap, lap

and

Here are grandmother's glasses (make rings around eyes with fingers)
Here is grandmother's hat (make a triangle above head with fingers)
Here is the way she folds her hands (fold hands)
and puts them in her lap (put hands in lap.)

Also wanted to say that it also works to just sing your own little song and make up words that fit the situation, i.e "It's time for us to clean up, clean up, clean up. It's time for us to clean up so we can go outside" OR "I like the way that Susie's sitting, Susie's sitting, Susie's sitting. I like the way that Susie's sitting, who else can do the same?"
