Short Stories...

I teach 7th grade. I purchased the following because I needed short stories to replace the lame stories in our textbook:

Read All about It! by Jim Trelease (Paperback) $13.50

No Easy Answers by Donald R. Gallo (Mass Market Paperback) $6.29

On the Fringe by Donald R. Gallo (Paperback) $6.29

Sixteen by Donald R. Gallo (Mass Market Paperback) $6.29

Join in by Donald R. Gallo (Mass Market Paperback) $5.85

These stories are said to appeal to middle to high school students. What I like about the select stories that I've read from these collections is that the stories all deal with real life issues so students are able to make real world connections...plus they will hopefully help interest them in reading.

I intend to hook my students with these stories from the very first week. Search them on the net for a closer look inside. Let me know your thoughts.

One of the stories recommended, Christmas Day in the Morning (Pearl Buck), I found in a free download online, along with Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory (wonderful), so do google any titles, especially classics, before you buy them.

A lot of these are older (but good), so appreciate sanrisa's recs of newer collections addressing real life issues. Thanks
