6 year old check up?

I am so used to taking my son in for a yearly check up, but he had his 5 shots last year and doesn't need any more this year. Do you take 6 year olds in for a yearly check up? Just curious.

I took my son for his 6 year old physical. They didn't give shots (which my son was soooo happy about), but they did a basic eye check and asked the usual milestones questions. It was also a great time for me to ask any questions. My advice would be to take him.

I was going to ask my doctor that very question when I take my baby in for her first vacinnation this week. My DD will be 6 in September - I was assuming she would have a check-up even if no vaccinations are due. I would probably call the doctor to find out for sure.

I take my kids in each year for a yearly physical. They don't always have to get shots but the doctor does a physical each year to just check if everything is normal.

My kids (7 and 10) go for check-ups every year. It's just a good time to run by some things with the doctor and make sure everything is on track.

I take my 11 year old in for a check up once a year right after his birthday. I figure it is good for him to get a check up and that way they can do a blood test and if I have any questions I can ask. Also, it is a good habit for him to get into that way as an adult he will, hopefully, continue getting check ups!!
I obviously still take my 4 year old and my 19 month old, which reminds me I need to call for my youngests check up!!! Thanks!!

I was thinking along the same lines....good to make sure he's a well oiled machine! He has been having eye issues and has an opthamologist appt. tomorrow. I'll ask that dr. to refer me to a new, GOOD pediatrician. Our last one was a complete jerk! Time to switch.

Finding a good pediatrician is hard. Fortunately, we had a GREAT one in Wisconsin, now that I moved I am scared that I won't find one that I (and my kids) like as much as the one in Wis.

Good Luck

take my five year old in tomorrow. My insurance covers the wellness and any shots needed to enter K. I plan to take her in again next year too.

When my 3 sons were little guys our insur. didn't pay for well-child physicals. My Dr. didn't know that, but he said that at age 6 they would only need to come in every other year unless there was a problem. We still only go in every other year unless there is a problem and fortunately we have had very healthy boys except for a broken bone or 2.

I would ask your pediatrician for his honest opinion. We love ours for sure!
