The Kissing Hand Activities

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Does anybody have and cute activities that go along with The Kissing Hand book? I have an alphabet match game that has a raccoon on each letter of the alphabet and they match the upper and lowercase letters. I also have a cute raccoon mask that the students make to wear and I give each child a kiss stamp on their hands. But I am always looking for more activities to do with this book.

Handprints

I went to the teacher resource center and cut out hand shapes and laminated them. I then had the parents kiss the handprint and we put a heart shaped sticker on it. I told the kids when they were sad and missed mom or dad, they could take out that handprint and hold it and know that mom and dad loved them.

My mentor when I was student teaching used to bake handprint sugar cookies with the kids on the first day. They put a Hershey kiss in the palm for the kiss and ate them for snack. I don't remember if she traced hands or had a hand-shaped cookie cutter - I'd think a cookie cutter to make it easier.

Take home puzzle

You can order blank puzzles from Oriental Trading Company for pretty cheap. Have each child paint their hand and press it onto the puzzle (While it is put together). When the paint dries, put a heart shaped sticker in the middle of the hand. Send the puzzle home(broken apart) on the first day of school with the note:

I made a puzzle just for you
At school on my very first day
It's made with love and my handprint
In a very special way.

Now you can sit down on the floor
With your favorite Kindergarten Kid
We'll put it together while I tell you about
All the fun things we did!

I think it is a great way for students to tell their parents about their first day, and it's a great keepsake for parents too!
