how to find out genres for books
Old 08-05-2009, 07:37 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I know this may seem ignorant BUT is there a web site that I can go to and type in a title of a book and have it tell me the genre of the book?

I am moving to fifth grade and bought a bunch of books form ebay. I am looking for a quick and easy way to put all of the books in my class library under the appropriate genre.

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I think I'm dense....

I cannot find genre on the back of any title page under the copyright date and publisher's info. I went to a used book store yesterday so I have a bag of books that I haven't brought to school yet and I thought I'd find the genres. Well, no luck doing it Hesitant_Hen's way.

My own personal Novels say the disclaimer...."This book is a work of fiction, all names, places, etc..." you know basically saying if it resembles a real person, it's coincidence.

Maybe only a particular publisher includes the genre.

I went to work today to work on my library. I couldn't find the genre on the books either. I tried separting books like Beth Newingham. Whoa what a task! Took me forever. I had to really look at a few of the books and try to decide where to put them.

Anyone else having a hard time or am I just slow? hehehehe

I don't see the genre on the back of the title page either

mic703- Sorry I don't have any other suggestions, I only used Book Wizard to organize my library this summer. The books that didn't show up there, I just decided for myself what the genre was. Good luck!

WHen you go to the Scholastic Book Wizard, http://bookwizard.scholastic.com you can either type the title or the author... then search and it will come up with a list of books, you then click on the correct book and listed on the left hand side is, reading level, lexile, level, DRA and genre.

or you can usescholastic reading counts http://src.scholastic.com/ecatalog/d...subt=0&Test=NA

and put in your search on the top (don't click on book wizard) and then you'll get a list again, click on your book and then you'll get all the info from book wizard, but a little bit more.

how to find the genre of books

I found a solution to this problem! Visit your public library website and use their search function! The search results will show you where to find the book in the library -- the shelf location by genre!
