Duct Tape on Whiteboards??
Old 08-09-2009, 06:13 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I saw colored duct tape at JoAnns the other day and I was thinking about using it to section off some of my whiteboards. It was thinner, like painters tape, not the super-wide usual gray duct tape. Our boards are pretty new though and I'm worried about damaging them. Has anyone ever used this on their boards before? Did it come off cleanly at the end of the year??? Thanks!

It would make me nervous...duct tape is SOOOOO sticky and leaves residue on everything.

Are your boards magnetic? Why not use a strip of border to section it off? That's what I do. Just stick pieces of magnetic tape onto the back and viola!

I'd worry about the duct tape too. I used painter's tape on my whiteboards (purple & blue - 2 of my favorite colors) and it stayed all year. When I peeled it off, it came off super easy.

I'd be nervous about putting tape on a whiteboard. But if you decide to GooGone should get it off if it leaves a residue.

I'd have to agree with the previous posters. Duct tape leaves a lot of sticky residue, especially when it's been in place for a long time! Painter's tape or masking tape would work really well instead!

electrical type tape

Yeah, that would make me nervous too. It's so hard to get the residue off.

I found some electrical type tape that came in different colors. It works really good, and comes off super clean.

They also make colored masking tape that would work too. The only problem with that is it will stain from dry erase markers.

Big Mistake

I used it on my white boards last year not even thinking about what it would leave behind and what a mistake. The custodians got it off but it took a lot of hard work on their behalf and I was a very thankful person. I'd try anything else but that.

Use Mavalus tape-it comes in all different colors and is very similar to painters tape.

I used colored electrical tape on my whiteboard and all the residue came off when I removed it at the end of the year.

we have been told "no tape of any kind"

I would do the magnets/border idea. That way you can move them if you need to

Electrical Tape

Agree with earlier poster. Electrical tape works great. I have had to move classes and remove it so many times I have lost count and it comes off fine.

I use colored permanent marker. It will come off and stays on where you need it.

borders

I used 1/2 inch ribbon that had cute polka dots on it for my border. I used a roll of magnets, the kind that is sticky on one side. It worked perfectly!

Gym floor tape leaves no marks behind anywhere. I use spots on my floor for kids to stand on for line and tape boards also. Works great!

Thanks!!

Thanks so much everyone!!! I have border around the outsides, but the boards are too long for one strip of border to go down the middles, so I wouldn't have enough border to make a full strip. Otherwise, that would definitely be my first choice! I'll have to check out Home Depot for that colored electrical tape. Finally, a school errand my DH won't mind tagging along for!

Thanks again for all your helpful advice!!
