What does this look like in your room? Is this meant to take the place of spelling? Can it?

My kids do a vocabulary assignment and sometimes a grammar worksheet. I need ways to fit some paper/pencil activities and this is one.

I've been using word work for spelling practice. I have a 6 different sets of stamps and 4 tubs of play-doh that the kids can use to make words. Some really take it seriously, but others use it as play time...especially with the play-doh. It one of their favorite centers, though

I used Making Words. I wrote the words down on index cards the words. I color coded them green easy, yellow medium, red hard. I store them in an index box.

I created a Making Words sheet to coordinate with it.

I found it very helpful! I'm using the activities from the site. I'll show them to the class one at a time and keep them in bins for the students to access during work on words.

My girlfriend found this site when she moved from 5th to Kindergarten. She told me about it having an upper grade component. The site is awesome! But you must take in a little at a time. It has so many resources and activities for Vocabulary, Phonics, Comprehension, and Fluency. They fit so well into CAFE and D5. But I took the summer to go through them and set everything up. I have them in crates and students can access them throughout the day. The best part is that there is no cost for using the products.

This website is no longer active! Does any know of any other place that helps with word work activities in the older grades? Thanks!

Just go to www.fcrr.org. That will work. Then click on "Instructional Materials for Teachers" and the appropriate grade level.
