Act # 682

Clip to ScrapBook #2

Arkansas Act 682 requires all ss classes to "Celebrate Freedom Week" the last full week of September. This year it will be the week of September 21-25, 2009.

Use this time to educate our students regrarding the scarifices that have been made to create, fight for, and maintain the freedoms that have today. Emphasize "values" that led our to the founding of our great nation and its on going stuggle for freedom.

I looked at your profile and see that you teach 1st grade. One activity that you might consider is having the students illustrate the Bill of Rights. Another one could be making a book or booklet of American symbols, and talking with the students about the meaning of those symbols. I've attached some links, but will look for more lower level activities if you need more.

This link is probably more in line with what you'd want for 1st graders and has tons of information and activities.
