Teaching kids to respect space

I'm having problems getting my kids to keep their hands off each other. Someone is always "accidentally" bumping into someone else. I'm thinking that they might just have to walk everywhere with their hands folded or in their pockets. What's worked for you?

We do a lot of movement breaks and talk about appropriate space. Although I have to say it about thirty times a day, cueing my students "to be in their own body space" works well...

Teach a lesson about personal space using hula hoops. That way the students get a real idea about how much space to leave between them and someone else.

I am going to get a hula hoop and use that idea! That's a wonderful visual. I have one student who thinks other people like it when he grabs them as they walk by. I had the students explain to him how it makes them feel when he invades their personal space.

Thanks for the idea!

I hadn't thought of using hula hoops to explicitly teach personal space. I'm going to ask our PE teacher if I can borrow a few for a lesson. Thanks for the great idea.
