I'm on the second floor of a 2 story building, so I see the roof of the office building next to our school, and the 10 story apartment building next to that. There are also the roofs of the houses in the neighborhood visible, and I see a lot of trees with their beautiful foliage, as well as power lines and utility poles.
My classroom is in the back of the building. My view is beautiful! There's a beautiful field, an enormous old maple tree, and then woods. Almost every morning outside my windows I see wildlife: wild geese, turkeys, deer, fox, etc. It's AMAZING. And it's breathtaking in the fall.
I'm at the back of the building and my back door is glass. Out my back door I can see part of the building and all the houses that are next to the school have privacy fences, so not much to look at there. I will say that I'm happy to have a window. Most of the classrooms in my building don't even have that. It's good to get sunshine.
that I have a view, even if it is of a cinderblock wall and the rooftops beyond it. MayCee, you expressed my point of view completely!!!
At my last school, we had no windows. Not a single one in any classroom. One of the reasons I left that school for my present environment was the fact that there were windows in the classrooms and a door that opened to the outside. I felt like I had seasonal affective disorder year round when I worked in the other school.
There's something about the glow of natural light that literally and figuratively brightens the mood. View or no view, I'm happy as long as there's windows and light and a door outside that lets me get some fresh air.
is of the courtyard/outdoor classroom. The colors of fallare truly beautiful this time of year even with the rain we've had here in the midwest. I love the view because it is good for me to be able to recharge by just gazing out the window. The spring is equally as pretty, by the way.
I have taught in a building where we were in huge pods with very high windows. Can you imagine? I felt so claustrophobic even in the wide space because I couldn't see outside
We look out on to a strip of grass and a tree-lined lane from a floor to ceiling glass pane. We turn off the lights each morning to sing our weather song and the answer just pops right out at us. It is also perfect for watching the seasons change. The window is a one of a kind feature as my room is an axillary room and not the standard issue. I do love that window.
My room overlooks the parking lot. It's a pain at dismissal time because kids get distracted looking to see if their parents are there yet. I tend to keep my blinds closed most of the time.
Yeah that's right...we have a perfect view of the cemetery and it is a distrction for my kids. At least one time a week I hear "Man someone died" when there is a burial there. It is terrible!! We can also see dismissal traffic!
We moved into a new classroom this year. An old kindergarten classroom on a middle school campus. We have windows on two sides of the classroom. One side we can see the courtyard between buildings and the administration building. Out the back, it is a little bit harder to see because the windows are painted but you can see our "backyard" area, a little black top area with grass that used to house the Kindergarten playground.
I have a world class view of the woods and we are right on a lake. Our setting is so beautiful we have had film crews come to scope us out! I am blessed. I need to take more time to stop and look out the windows!!
I'm jealous of all your views. My school is in the middle of town. I have six beautiful windows in the back of my classroom. They are ALWAYS covered with blinds. I NEVER open the blinds. Why? My classroom looks out on the back of a building where homeless people sometimes go to throw up or use the bathroom. I'll never forget the time (when I first had the blinds open) when one of my kids said, "Mrs. BookLover, there's a man going to the bathroom on the wall!" So much for returning to English class! Now maybe if I taught science....
My classroom is at the back of the school away from everything. My windows overlook our playground and beyond that are woods and a gorgeous lake. My room faces the east and in the morning the sun is so pretty shining over the lake and through the trees. I refuse to close my blinds even when my students are squinting!
I'm very lucky and I appreciate it every day.
The natural light is wonderful! My classroom overlooks our garden and we are also very close to several large flowering trees. The fence that is close by is lined with hanging flower pots and in season tall, tall sunflowers. It all just makes me smile!!!
I have no windows : (
We dont have doors to our room either, just huge openings in the wall. So when we discuss the weather of the day, we all look out of our opening into the room across the hall out of their window. It is kind of silly really!!
I have an ex-gym closet. I have 3 doors: one to the stage, one to the gym, and one to the hall. The only door with windows is the door to the hall and it is a vertical row of three face-space sized windows...
*sigh* I guess that is no improvement! :-(
I have a great view of our playground which is great until there are classes on it! I like having the blinds open and most of my kids do a decent job ignoring the kids that are playing on it!
I have no windows. My room and the K and 2nd rooms were made out of one large room. So the hallway was the only thing with windows when the put up walls to divide. 2nd Has a window. I just got a small rectangular window cut into my door so at least I can get a shred of light from the hallway now. Even if I had the window it would overlook the parking lot from the 2nd floor...
I have never heard of an underground school! Where is it?
My school is built on the side of a hill, so I look out into the middle and tops of the trees on our natural area and playground below. It is like being in a treehouse. With the fall colors it is beautiful! We can see hawks circling and birds flitting in the trees. Lots of susnshine too since we face southwest.
outside my window! I work in a country school and we have a park like setting. I can't say that I have a "view", but it's fun to see the occasional deer and elk come by. Before they got our drainage system in we used to have a "river" outside our window during the Northwest winters--a couple times it flooded into the classroom. Am so glad that seems to be taken care of!
My last school had NO windows, so I consider my window in my new room a perk...even though it looks out directly to the housing project across the street. It may not be the loveliest view, but at least we get some sunshine in our room!
My first classroom was an extra addition, so being in the middle I had no windows. I am a "need to see the sunshine" type person. The school allowed me to paint one wall a sunny yellow and I had two old windows that I bought posters, trimmed them to fit and stapled them behind the windows and hung them. It gave us a gorgeous view (Golden Gate Bridge and Redwood tree) and we always had sunshine. Sometimes it was a bit of a shock to walk outside and see otherwise. The last two years I have had a window and I will say while I like the natural light, it is dreary sometimes when it's cloudy and the rain really distracts. I have put my animal cages (fish tank and reptile tank) in front of them so it blocks the eye level view and keep the blinds open above them. I think I would take almost any view though as opposed to no windows.
