writing standards

I am in CA and having trouble finding any resources on standards W1.2 and W1.6. IF you are not from CA, those standards are editing paragraphs. I can find millions of worksheets on editing grammar but that is not what the students are tested on. They need to be able to read a passage and delete an unneeded sentence. Or they need to read a passage and then choose a sentence that can be added to the passage maybe as more detail or the topic sentence. If you have or know of any resources, please share I would really appreciate the help!

You could give them a paragraph written on sentence strips or on strips of paper. They can take out the unneeded sentence or write a new sentence to add.

released test items from Virginia's SOL tests. If you google "Virginia Writing SOL test" you should be able to see previous tests. The tests cover pre-writing activities, un-needed sentences, how to best combine sentences, adding sentences, and a variety of grammar skills. It is all in MC format. There on interactive online versions and printables.

Hope this is what you needed!?!

The released test questions are very helpful in providing resources for you to use. Also, check out Measuring Up to the California Content Standards. It is a GREAT book for teaching all of the LA standards (there is one for math as well)

Yes, I agree with pp to go to CST website and print the test release questions. Also, I agree that you should look into purchasing Measuring Up. A colleague of mine used it last year with a difficult bunch and they did extremely well!!
